Bernie

bernie2bernie1bernie3

We changed his name as the kids were having difficulty pronouncing the E in Ernie so somehow it changed to "Bernie". He is fitting it wonderfully with our family. He is cute, cute, cute! I sent a few pics: one of my mother and the kids playing with Bernie in the snow, one of my daughter with Bernie and another with our other dog, "Girlfriend" snuggled up on a chair together. He loves having a dog companion and so does Girlfriend. Bernie is very much enjoying all of the activity in our home with the kids and especially that he is almost never alone. I think that might of been part of his problem in the past. He does not enjoy being separated from us and is never more that a few feet away from us if not directly in our lap. We have a huge desk that the computer is on and he now has a dog bed on the desk as I could not type with him on my lap very well. The previous owner stated that he only "tolerated children," but Bernie has been excellent with all 4 kids constantly is engaging them to play with him and his toys.

Thanks a bunch!

Lily

LilyI adopted Lily who as known as POM POM on April 3, 2009. Attached is a picture which was taken shortly after she joined us.

Lily is a very happy girl who loves her backyard, walks and snow. The weather does not seem to bother her and she has had two walks a day despite the recent bad weather. She has two kitty sisters that she gets along with pretty well. Her health is good after a couple of parasite problems - one that caused her to loose her beautiful coat which has since grown back. She has plenty of toys to chew and loves bedtime in our bedroom in her extra large kennel that she goes into on her own.

Everyone who meets her thinks she is very cute and thinks that she looks like a fox. She has dog friends in the neighborhood and is always eager to play. At first she liked to run and once got up to Roe which is a very busy street. She has broken that bad habit and prefers to stay close to us now. We are careful about the gates being closed and she is never left out too long however.

Please let me know if you need any other info.

Thanks for checking up on us

Kelsey

KelseyI adopted Kelsey in February 2009, a month after my other cat's sibling passed away. A few months after adopting Kelsey I relocated out of state for work. The adjustment to a new owner for Kelsey and the adjustment for a new roommate for my existing cat, plus relocating homes has been rough. We still work on getting along, however Kelsey has been a great addition. She was turned in for not getting along with new cats in the household. It has taken a lot of patience but slowly the two cats are accepting each other. Kelsey has been a joy and is such a sweet cat. I can't believe someone actually gave her up. She has developed diabetes, but we are managing and she is doing great. I am happy I found Kelsey.

Jose

jose jose2 jose3Dear Pet Connection,

We want to let you know that our newest family member, adopted from Pet Connection, is doing very, very well. Jose' is one happy cat and he has been a wonderful addition to our family. We lost our cat Leonard, who was almost 19 years old, nearly two year ago and it was devastating. We knew that it was time to bring in another family member and we are so glad we did! Jose' has fit right in, not only with my husband and I, but with our eight year old dog, Piper. These two are the best of friends! Sometimes we refer to them as Bonnie and Clyde as they have worked together to get muffins and such from the counter top. (Jose' knocks them to the floor and Piper eats them)! We have gotten much smarter and have "child-proofed" the kitchen as well as other parts of our home. Jose' is not allowed to go outside but when Piper is out in the backyard, Jose' watches from the window and "talks" until Piper comes back in. So precious!

Thank you so much for introducing us to Jose' as he is now part of our family and we love him dearly. (Attached are some pictures of Jose')

Sincerely,
Shannon & Rick Kalebaugh

Bowser

                 bowser1  bowser2
Hello!

I just wanted to check in with everybody and let you know Bowser who I adopted in July is doing amazing! I included a few pictures of him and his new buddy Tabu doing their favorite activity, sunbathing and napping on the bed.

I am so thankful that you let me bring Bowser into my family. We just recently completed a move from Missouri to Arkansas and he did great. He is just the most amazing cat. He is quite a handful and between him and Tabu (his new buddy) they get into just about everything in the house. I took him to the vet where he was quite the hit, they weighed him at at a whopping 28.7 lbs but said despite that he is in fantastic health. He has started to lose a little weight and is getting around much better. Bowser makes sure to wake me and Tabu up with meows and headbutting at about 4:30am every morning to eat. =0) My baby definitly doesnt like to miss a meal. I just wanted to thank all of you there for introducing myself and Tabu to Bowser, he has been the most wonderful cat and he has definitly found his forever home here with us where he belongs. Thank you again!!!
XOXO
Mitzi, Tabu, and Bowser <3

Angel

angel1 angel2 Angel is doing well, she is adjusting fairly well to our house. You may remember, we were told that she was likely a puppy-mill dog. She is no longer scared of us for the most part, and we don't see the panting or shaking nearly like we did when we adopted her. She can be a little skittish, but she loves attention, even though she has to deal with our other dog, Charlie, getting very jealous. Charlie can't stand for her to get any attention on her own; he has to be getting attention too. She actually gets along great with our 4-year-old son; she seems less scared of him actually than me, perhaps because I'm the one most likely to pick her up to go outside to go potty.

We've been working to housebreak her, but it hasn't gone quite as well as we had hoped yet. She still will pee on the rug, almost every time she is out of our site for a minute, unless we keep her shut in her crate. We are wondering if this behaviour is because she is scared, or if she just needs more time to be housebroken.

All together, she has been a great dog for us. She is a real sweetheart. The picture attached with both dogs is from right after we adopted her; the picture with just her is from today.

After we get past the holiday rush, we may come in for the behaviour classes to discuss the jealousy and the housebreaking.

Cuddles

cuddles cuddles2 cuddles3Thanks for checking on our beautiful kitten. He is the greatest addition to our family and has made himself very much at home. Our five year old daughter adopted him and loves, loves, loves him. And he is the most patient kitten on the planet, very affectionate and very playful. She has endured a few scratches and he has endured playing babies and riding around in a baby carriage. They both love each other very much.

I've attached some pictures of Cuddles and Gillian and Cuddles together. Gillian is planning to make a donation to your wonderful organization for Cuddles' birthday which we will bring in January. She is also collecting donations for Pet Connection since she has run out toys and games to request for the holidays and her own birthday. She has asked people for dog and cat toys, blankets, and treats. Please let me know if there is anything more specific you would like her to ask for.

Thanks for all that you do.

Max

max1 max2 max3
Enclosed find pictures of our Max, he is a prized possession in our family, he loves everyone and he and the cats are warming up to each other. He is inseparable from his “big Brother” Chip. He also has found a “bed partner” in his new Dad Mike. He has become just another member of the family. We love him dearly and he is one of the best dogs you could ever ask for.

max4P.S. He loves doggy clothes, he shivers if he doesn’t have one of his sweaters on. We have never had a dog that likes clothes, so it is fun to buy them for him. He even found his own gift under the Xmas Tree and opened it up—we don’t know how he knew it was his, but, he did!

Merry Christmas,
The Steele Family

Maggie

                 maggie1 maggie2
I adopted Lily (border collie mix in mid Nov) and renamed her Maggie. I have attached two photos of Maggie (on the left) and Barney my other dog. They get along great and Maggie has been a good dog for the most part.

The only issues I am having with Maggie is a combination of not recalling   and running away. I have figured out, that apparently her previous owners would call her in or catch her and then punish her. I have been using treats and toys to get her to come to me on command. She is doing better, but if she gets out or thinks she might be in trouble, she normally will not let me get close to her. If there is anything else I should be doing/could be doing please let me know.

I am hoping the recall issue will continue to improve, but over all she has been a very good dog. It is funny to watch her mimic Barney, especially if treats are in the offing. She will look at Barney, if he sits she sits.

Eddie

                  eddie1eddie2

Eddie is doing great! He's adapted to his new home very well and he is having a blast. He's been meeting a lot of new people and he loves going to the dog park to run around. He's still a little shy but he's made a lot of improvement when it comes to meeting new people.

Attached are two of the many pictures that he has posed for (He's quite photogenic). One of his favorite things to do is help us cook in the kitchen. Somehow he always manages to wedge himself in between us and the counter and let us know if we are doing a good job!

We love having him around and we are so grateful that we adopted him. He's been the perfect dog for us!

Thanks,

David

Lexi

        lexi1lexi2lexi3
Hi - Lexi is wonderful. Check out the attached pictures of her on the ledge in her room - checking out her new view and fall breezes. She also has a heated kitty basket, fresh tuna for breakfast and lots of love every day! Not to mention one of us is sleeping with her every night for this first week.

We are giving her a little slice of kitty heaven which she so deserves after all the trauma she has undoubtedly faced in the last year of changes. She survived the streets to get to Olathe, survived euthanasia to get to you, and survived trauma at TPC to get to us!!! So it was meant to be & she is SUCH a love bug & deserves a great home!!

No introductions to the other furry family members for awhile, but I will probably start introducing her to more rooms in the house soon for short periods of time and 100% supervised as we did with our Precious last spring. She has a great bond with me, but is slower to warm up to Pat. She bit his pinky finger as he tried to pet her when she wasn't ready - he's learning, still trying, and its improving every day. He will call and if I am in her room and put the speaker on she runs to the phone and rubs all over it as he talks!! She will jump off my lap and run to the door when she hears his voice coming towards the room. Its too cute!!

Addie

addieAddie is GREAT!! She is so light hearted and good with the kids. We've recently moved and it didn't take her long at all to adjust to a new house. She is very friendly and lovable, she's the 60 lb dog that would love to be a lap dog. She LOVES to cuddle, she will climb into bed with one of our boys and lay either at their feet or if it's a chilly evening she'll lay under the covers with her head on their pillow! It took her awhile to adjust to our cat but she has, for the most part, accepted that the cat is not a "fetch" toy. Thank you for all you do. We're so glad that we found Addie and have her in our family and it's all because of the hard work that you all do.

Pippy Longstockings

Pippy LongstockingsHI,

Peppy (but we re-named her Pippy Longstockings 'cause I thought Peppy lePew sounded like a boy name). is doing great. She and our cat, Clancy, are best buddies and share my lap as soon as I sit down in the evenings. She also got along well with my son's visiting cat this summer, Bonnie. Attached picture shows Pippy and Bonnie grooming each other.

Rosie

rosie1rosie2rosie3Rosie is doing very well. She has become like a sister to our other dog, a female lab named Penny. They make quite a pair, a little chihuahua and a big black lab. They love to play together, and somehow Penny knows how to play with Rosie without ever hurting her. Penny is happy to have a playmate.

rosie4rosie5rosie6My wife wanted a small dog that she could cuddle with, and Rosie fills that role perfectly.

rosie7I've attached some pictures of Rosie, as well as her with our lab Penny.

Thanks

Spook

spook1spook2spook3Spook, whom you knew as Lacy, is doing fine. She was diagnosed with a case of gingivitis and has been under continuous treatment for that for some time. She takes both her medications and has no problem with them. She is still extremely spook4active, indeed manic, and races full speed through my home while leaping over furniture and playing with tiny scraps of paper. She sleeps with me at night and demands long sessions of petting from me. Other than a penchant for picking up small articles and carrying them off she is fine. I have found my cell phone under a couch and my car keys under my desk in the morning.

Sami

         sami3sami1 sami2

I am more than happy to send you an update on Sami, the American Bulldog/Pit Bull Mix, we adopted from Pet Connection almost a year and a half ago. Wow time flys! Sami has forever changed our life and we love her SO much. I've included some pictures of her with this email. She is doing great, and having her has gotten us very involved with Pit Bull Rescue. We are volunteers with Missouri Pit Bull Rescue and actually have a foster now too! We have become huge advocates for the breed since adopting Sami. She was meant to be ours. I remember seeing her through the window of her "room" and it was like I just knew she was suppose to be with me. We take her everywhere, and she is treated like royalty. Thank you so much for giving us such a wonderful blessing!

Lily

lily1lily2lily3When we first Adopted Lilly we were in for a big surprise by how much personality she had! She dug up our sod, Destroyed the flower beds, and ate the kids toys. Once we took a behavior training class and learned how to keep her busy she became the epitome of the good dog. We can not imagine not having her with us now.

Two months after we got her, we let Lily sleep on our enclosed front porch. She prefers to sleep in her open crate there on nice nights. Ive since learned its because she guard instincts.

At 4am that night a Intruder came on to our property. We heard Lilly barking and I got outside and as soon as I got there Lilly Jumped through the screens and went after the intruder. She chased him to the edge of the property and then came back and stood guard beside me. She never left our property and she never attacked though she had many chances to do so.

We have since taught our girl many new tricks. She knows how to Hug, Sit, Stay,Down, Gentle, play dead from a fake gunshot to the head or chest, How to catch a treat from her nose, Shake, Fetch, Drop it and many more tricks and commands!

I can not imagine how any family could give this girl up! She is a member of our family and she will be with us until she passes on. Thank you Pet Connection for bringing this Beautiful Vivacious Family Member to us.

Zoey

zoeyIt was in February 2006 we went to The Pet Connection just "to look around". We had lost our dear friend Barney in December, and my husband, I and his big sister Dutchess, who was 14 at the time, were miserable. He left a huge whole in our hearts and lives.

The Pet Connection hadn't been in the current building very long, and the volunteer showed us some of the Lab mixes and other dogs. I turned around, and standing up against a door with a window in her own office, I saw the biggest set of ears and bright eyes looking right at us. We were adopted, but didn't know it.

We met Zoey, a German Shepherd, that night. She hadn't been there long, the volunteer didn't know much about her. About the only thing is that she was very, shall we say, "energetic".

We have never regretted our decision. What a glorious girl and wonderful member of the family. Zoey is now 5 and loves to play frisbee (catching it in mid-air) and retrieve and jump for sticks. She LOVES her daily walks, and every day we get ready, it's like she hasn't had one for a year. She is very protective of me, and when I went swimming on the 4th of July, she jumped in to save me. And this is a dog you have to use a choker and leash to get into the bathrub!

Our vet told us we had extended Dutchess' life by about three years by getting Zoe. He was right. We just lost our beloved Dutchess on July 27, 2009. She was 17, and now we have another huge hole in our hearts. We're thinking about another adoption, but are still getting use to our girl being gone

We live in Mission, and I constantly have people ask me while out on our walks if I am walking Pet Connection dogs. I laugh, say no, but always let them know we got our Zoey from Pet Connection.

Thank you for helping us find our friend, Zoey.

We just wanted to give you an update on Lexie (formerly Hawaii) who we adopted from you in April 2009. We love her so much and she is such a great friend to our other dog, Caramel. We adopted Caramel in March 2009 from the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City and she had major separation anxiety which led us to look for a friend for her. What a great match it is! They love to wrestle and play, but also snuggle. Our family just returned from a family vacation in Colorado and "the girls" went with us! They had a great time and we did too! Thank you so much for providing such a great facility and for allowing us the privilege of adopting Lexie! Have a great day!

velvet Yes, it's been more than two years since we adopted Velvet and she's as delightful as ever. She gets along well with our other cats and loves being petted. She's even becoming a lap cat and no longer minds being picked up and held, which are relatively new developments. I've attached a photo of her with her favorite toy, a sachet of catnip.

Thanks for checking in!

We adopted Addie on 4/10/09. We were told by Humane Society that she was their favorite and she was also a favorite at TPC, she is now a favorite at our house. As you can see from the pictures she has exceeded our expectations. She is so gentle and so loving with the two legged children. We are working out a few kinks with the cat and our older German Shepherd, but it's very clear that she is a good dog.

Thank you for all you do.

Seamus

holys1Hello again!

We wanted to share a few pictures that we have taken recently of both Seamus, our most recent addition to our family, as well as Roxy (aka Freda). They are thick as thieves together and our cat has joined in the fun!

Tug of war remains their favorite sport but they will not hold still long enough for us to grab a picture! It is really something worth seeing and a source of great amusement for our whole family. They are almost perfectly matched in size, weight and strength so it is truly anyone's game each time they play!

holys4Seamus is so well trained that he refuses to sleep on the furniture. Since Roxy has no such qualms, we encouraged Seamus to hop on up at night but he refused. We broke down after a few days and bought him a big, fluffy bed which he most certainly enjoys. (He is definitely the smartest one, as he never has to fight for leg room at night!)

We hope you enjoy the other pictures of our silly, happy dogs. Thank you again for matching us with these two! They are such a great fit in our home and in our family!

Luna
lunaluna

Luna, as best I can figure, is a mix of dachshund and Jack Russell Terrier.  She looks like a white Jack Russell with short legs.  One eye is brown and one eye is blue.  She has the dachshund love for digging and the Jack Russell Terrier prey drive, that is, the love for chasing anything that moves.  Cats are a favorite.

I have four cats.  One cat is an ancient lynx point Siamese called Psycho Cat, who is going on 14 years old.  Psycho Cat tolerates no nonsense and Luna respects her.  The others, well, when they show their little kitty faces Luna does her imitation of Shirley Muldowney.  She launches off grandpa’s antique glider rocker on to the hardwood floor and then does an extensive burnout with little short legs going at warp speed and her little Luna body going nowhere at all.  The cats just hop up on whatever furniture is close and yawn while looking down on Luna in complete boredom.

Luna loves her sisters, the two boxers Tillie and Elika.  Elika is also deaf like Luna.  Luna thinks she is a big dog, and the three dogs play hard.  Luna grabs on and swings from the boxers’ jowls and it’s all great fun.  My Boston Terrier, Rosie, is less thrilled, and she would rather stay out of Luna’s way.  Rosie is a Lady and doesn’t have patience for silliness.

Luna likes to shred underwear, socks, anything fabric that she can steal.  She “kills” it first by “shaking it to death,⡍ then she “rips its guts out.”  She likes to dig in the yard, and it’s hilarious to see her go at it with those tiny little legs.  She looks like a cartoon.

Her only challenges right now are that she worries about strangers.  She will bark at people in the street and in the neighbor’s yard.  So I’m working on rewarding her for not barking, and I have plans to walk her more in the neighborhood to expose her to new people with positive reinforcement inthe way of treats for good behavior.

She is a funny little dog.  I tell her I got 30% more dog for the money because she looks like a regular dog except she is the “stretch” model.

Thank you, Kathleen I.

Jaylee

jaylee jaylee I wanted to follow up to a voicemail message you left checking on how Jaylee
is doing. I apologize for the delay in responding. Jaylee has adjusted to family wonderfully. She sleeps well, and only had a couple of accidents in the beginning. She LOVES to chew, and we are adjusting to putting away our shoes more regularly. Sydney our older dog loves to play with her, and Jaylee loves to antagonize her in return. Rather noisy at time, but all in good fun. Sydney is very protective of Jaylee, and notices when she goes missing from the room Sydney is in. Jaylee has become a great addition to our family!

Mandy

mandy Mandy is doing very well. She did not like being left in her safe room, so we let her out and she found a hiding place under our bed. Over two days we would gently bring her out and hold her, letting her grow accustomed to us. On the third day she stayed out in the living room and curled up in Alisha's lap. She has quickly become the most loving cat we've ever experienced and she is a joy to have as part of our family. She had some accumulation of dirt in her ears which the vet took care of today. She is eating consistently and purrs constantly when pet. She has this adorable habit of flopping over when her belly is scratched and wiggling all over until she falls off the couch.

Socks

socks Socks is doing great in our home! We adopted him on December 4th and couldn't be happier with him. He's sweet and playful, and he's adjusting very well to our kids and our dogs. He has the most amazing purr we've ever heard... we call it his motor. His favorite toy is definitely the cat fishing pole, although our dogs' ears are a close second. Thanks for all that you do, and for making Socks part of our family!

Ginger

ginger Ginger, a redbone coonhound mix, was adopted from TPC in January 2007. It wasn't long after the adoption that we realized Ginger was special. We noticed her talent for exuding a calm, quiet affection that put people at ease. So we had Ginger certified through the Delta Society Mo-Kan Pet Partners Chapter and signed her up for the Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) program. Today, Ginger empowers children to read in a relaxed, comfortable, nonjudgmental environment. Ginger also visits patients with Alzheimer's at a local nursing home and the mental health unit at a nearby hospital. Ginger is also being featured in a 2009 national vet calendar. She is the March 2009 dog!

He loves sleeping on the waterbed, drinking out of toilet bowls, chasing catnip mice, and climbing everything in site.

Rocco

rocco We adopted Rocco, formerly known as Koby in July of 08. He is the most wonderful pet anyone could ever ask for! He is a huge mama's boy and to rough-house with his Daddy and Grandma as well. He is
incredibly spoiled and likes to sport a Kansas State hoodie on game days and of course, a Chiefs jersey on Sundays. We had a little difficulty with potty training at first, but now we do not have any problems. He is very smart and has learned to sit, shake, and lay down on command as long as you have a treat in hand. His favorite toy is a stuffed monkey from Target, and he loves to sleep in the bed right on mama's pillow next to her head. We love this little guy more than anything! His was an amazing addition to our home and we are hoping to adopt a second Pomeranian from the Pet Connection in the
future!

All the best,
Amanda F.

Bella

bella1 bella2 bella3
Dear Pet Connection,
br /> We adopted Bella (previously known as Cali) back in May from the Pet Connection. Our previous kitty had passed away in January and there was a major void in our home after he was gone. When I saw Bella at the Pet Connection and held her, I knew right away that she was the kitty for our family! And I was right!! Bella made herself at home her first week with us. My husband even commented that even after just a few days, it seemed like she had always been our kitty. She is very good with our 22 month old son, which was extremely important to us. She is gentle and loves to tackle some yarn as he drags it across the floor for her. She has used only her scratcher to scratch on, and has had no behavioral problems whatsoever! She occasionally attempts to jump on to the kitchen counter, but one stern look from me and she knows she best jump back down! She has discovered a new hiding place, up under the hide-a-bed couch, and in the evenings when it's quiet and our son has gone to bed, she knows it's her time with me and she climbs into my lap and gets a good rubdown! We adore Miss Bella and are so glad we found her at the Pet Connection!

Thanks!

Cookie

cookie Pet Connection,

Everything is going really well with little Cookie :). She gets cuter everyday and I love having a new little pal in my life. She had/has a few annoying little habits like her obsession with licking everything (especially the feet of any guests I have HA) or running off with dryer sheets anytime someone gets near the laundry machines, but we're working on it, and she is much more of a blessing than a nuissance for SURE. I always look forward to my couch cuddle time and walks at the park and now can't imagine life without her! I plan to come back to classes at some point because I think they're really useful and fun for her. Thanks so much for all you do and for bringing Cookie and I together! The picture shows when she came inside with a leaf stuck to her nose one day. Thanks – Sarah K.

Jewel and Calvin

              Jewel          calvin

We adopted Jewel, a tabby, from you about a year ago, at Thanksgiving. She has adjusted very well to her new home, and loves to sleep at the foot of our bed. About a month after we adopted Jewel, we came back to Pet Connection to find Jewel a friend, and ended up adopted Calvin, a big orange and white cat, at Christmas time. Jewel loves to sneak up on Calvin and tackle him, and they like to wrestle and play. It took Calvin a little while to adjust to his new surroundings, but his doing great now. He loves to sleep at the end of our bed. And he’s nice and toasty-warm on your lap on a cold day. Jewel & Calvin get along great. We're so glad they were both able to join our family! - Anne H.

Panini

paniniI adopted my dog on 9/9/08 and she is doing great. We have named her Panini. I recently started to wonder when you would be checking up on her. I'm glad to see that she wasn't forgotten. She loves her new family and has adjusted well. My 3 boys love her so and enjoy taking walks around the neighborhood and playing ball with her. She is truly being treated like a princess. I finally have another female in the house!!

Brandy

Hello,

brandy We changed our dog's name from Triggie to Brandy. Brandy joined our family 4/12/08 and has truly been a blessing to our family. Brandy enjoys rides in the car, visiting family, and curling up in bed. Brandy won my heart because she is a lap dog. Brandy is living the life of luxury; she has a monthly grooming appointment with Ashley at Petsmart! She sleeps with my 11 year old son and I take her to visit my Mom a few times a week and my Mom takes her for walks!!! Brandy has touched everyone in my family's heart! We're looking forward to celebrating the holidays with our new fury family member! Thanks Pet Connection for a wonder adoption!!!

Lady Zada

lady zada My name is Ashley and I adopted the chihuahua mix previously called Precious. She has since been renamed Lady Zada and has become everyone's favorite puppy! Anyone that meets her immediately falls in love with her, and how could you not? She's everything I could have asked for and more. She LOVES to play, and cuddle, and she's terrific at tag. We joke around about her running so fast she becomes just a mere streak sometimes, or how her legs become invisible like the roadrunner. She wasn't fully potty trained when we adopted her but now she sits at our feet or the door to let us know when she needs to go. She absolutely adores treats! We give her some for telling us when she needs to go outside and that really sped up the process. She is very intelligent and is quite easy to teach tricks. So far she knows how to sit, lay down, beg, and play dead. Zada is learning how to complete the play dead and roll into a full roll over, and how to turn the beg into a dance by turning around on her hind legs. If you put a rawhide bone in front of her she will work at it until it's gone (I call it puppy catnip). She even plays catch with herself if we're not throwing the ball for her to chase.

She had a strong fear of dogs when we adopted her that we have been working on and she has since made a few friends!! That's the accomplishment I'm the most happy with. I was afraid she would never be comfortable enough with other dogs to have the play time she needed. We work hard to keep bringing her to PetSmart or to friend's and family member's homes who have dogs so she can become familiar with them. She now can play happily with three dogs without worry, and she is in the process of making a few more. She seems to have a slight problem with men. It takes a bit longer for her to warm up to men than it does for women, but once she does she's okay with them for a while unless they try to play with her or there is a sudden movement. If they do play with her and she
does get spooked again, it is possible to get her back comfortable again, but it is an ongoing process and one we're all willing to work with her on.

Zada is quite spoiled and she knows she's my princess. She has a small "toy box" where we put her toys, she has a pink rhinestone collar, and I still put her cute scarf on her she got from you guys. She's quite a cuddler and loves to curl up next to me when I go to sleep. Since I call her my baby my mom has named herself Grandma and refers to herself as "Grammy" to the puppy. She's not just our dog, she's our newest, smallest member of our family. I love my baby girl and I would never have found her without your help. Thank you for everything. You have great employees and and a great facility. We brag about you all the time and those who know of you also agree. We went to many places and couldn't find that perfect match, and in going to those places, we saw some not-so-great ones. No one seemed so in touch with their dogs as much as you guys do. I wish you the best of luck with everything you do there and Zada and I (or my mom) will continue to stop by and say hey. Thanks again!

Ashley

Carrie

                carrie1           carrie2

Carrie is doing wonderful. She is a joy to have around. She still loves to go on car rides whenever possible. As soon as she sees someone putting on their shoes she comes running. She loves to make herself at home on your lap, while you are watching television.

She loves to chase squirrels and birds in our backyard. She and our three cats get along fine now. Though she gives them a little growl if they get too close to her rawhide bones. She does have the tendency to snack on cat food here and there. But it works out okay since the cats sneak a bit of her dog food here and there, too.

We have not had problems with her allergies. WE did find out that she loves peanut butter paws. They are some "all natural" treats that we found.

I have attached a few pictures of Carrie right after she returned from a beauty session at Empire Pets this past Friday. She is too cute.

Take Care,

Ron & Debbie R.

Kaun

                   kaun            kaun and breckin

Thanks to everyone at Pet Connection for the work you do. Phoenix was renamed to Kaun. He is doing very well. We have been trying to put some weight on him and hope to get him up 5 or 10 pounds. He had some potty problems the first few days in the house but has overcome those quickly. He is a ball of energy always playing with our 2 year old lab Breckin. We took him to the vet on Friday and he is very healthy. Here is his story:

Hi! My name is Kaun formerly known as Phoenix. I am having a blast in my new home. I just love to play all day with my new best buddy Breckin. She is a two year old yellow lab who is really good at fetching the ball like I am. We like to play-bite each other on the ears and wrestle. I love going on walks, runs, and playing with my Kong. My owners say I'm very well behaved so I get to go visit the farm this weekend. I can't wait.

Charlotte

charlotte Previously, you had emailed me wanting an update on Charlotte (Lola - one smart little greyhound). She is doing great. She is actually this week's "Blog Star" at her daycare, K-9 Club. See http://www.k-9club.com/index.php?option=
com_content&task=blogsection&id= 5&Itemid=14
. She has been a great addition to our dog family. She is a chew face, so we have every chew toy imaginable. Fortunately, there hasn't been a significant loss in shoes!

Celie

              celie            celie1

Celie is doing great. She is being trained for Search and Rescue and should be certified in the next few weeks. She absolutely loves it and gets all excited when she gets to meet her team members for training. She is very good at it. She gets along with all the other animals, including the cats. We are still trying to teach her not to chase the ones that run from her. Most of the cats do not run and that is good. She is so smart and loves to be by my side constantly. - Cathy G.

Annie

We adopted Annie from your facility and she has been such an awesome dog!! Our 3 year old especially loves her and she sleeps with her and protects and watches over her!! She is our second child so to speak...thank you so much for allowing us to adopt her!!

Jay Jay

jay jay We adopted Jay Jay approximately 7 months ago. Where to begin, Jay Jay has been such a wonderful addition to our family we can't believe he hasn't even been here a year yet. Jay Jay is so well behaved, minds especially well and is a sweet as can be. He has 2 dog sisters and 2 cat brothers and gets along well with everyone of them. He is very nice and gentle to our 3 small grandkids and we all love him very much. Once our friends have met Jay Jay they all want to take him home, but he will live with us forever! - Sally T.

Whisper

whisper It was a great idea to get a new kitten. I missed the meow that accompanied my walk through the door of my apartment. Whisper has brought a new energy to my house. I named her Whisper because when she gets real close to your face, her meow gets real quiet, like she knows she doesn't have to be loud as usual. She is adjusting real well. She loves my back door, which is glass. She can see everything that is going on outside. She just recently found the toy balls with smaller balls inside. She swats at it and chases it for a long time. She does not like it when she cannot see me. I leave the room and she begins to meow real loud. All I have to do is call her name and she races almost uncontrollably to where I am. It is especially funny when she slides across the kitchen floor, after a dashing run. She comes real close to smacking into the cabinets, or refrigerator. You can see the look of surprise on her face when she does not stop like she does on carpet. Whisper is a well behaved kitten. She has her moments when she gets on the counters, or tries to get out into the hallway outside the front door, or starts to eat the plants, but a couple of stern "no's" and she figures it out pretty quickly. I could go on and on and on, even though it has only been a week. But, I know you have other things to do. I am thankful as can be for you allowing her to come home to me. I wish you the best in helping the other animals there at The Pet Connection to find good hoes as well. - Tom and Whisper

Calvin

               calvin           calvin1

Last winter we adopted Sunkist who we now call Calvin. We love the little twerp so much, and he fits into our family SO well! Our 12 year old cat Sammy and Calvin bonded immediately and are inseparable! We also adopted a little chihuahua pug mix named Marco and all three pets are the same color so we call them the butterscotch brothers. They all play well together along with our 7 year old dog, Kipper. Calvin is quite the explorer. We have 3 house rabbits who have there own room. We couldn't figure out how Calvin kept getting in their room in the basement. We'd find him curled up in one of the bunny beds with one of the rabbits. We finally figured out that he found a way to crawl through the ceiling from one room to the next. Calvin is also our little acrobat! Sometimes when you hold him he flops backward, arches his back and throws his head upside down. He'll let you hold him in this position for up to a few minutes, completely trusting.

Abigail

               abby          abbey2

We adopted Abigail a week ago from The Pet Connection and she is such a joy to our house. We nicknamed her 'Abbey Cat'. Not only does our 2 year old son LOVE her, but our 2 year old 'daughter'- Tinky a pomeranian and miniature schnauzer mix- adores her. It is very entertaining to watch them play around the house- before we adopted Abbey all our dog did was lay around the house and lounge. Now Tinky is up and about playing all day with her new 'sister' Abbey Cat. She is a very affectionate kitten and purrs all the time! We are thrilled to have found The Pet Connection!

Lucy

lucy Itʼs been a little over 7 months since we adopted Lucy (formerly Sissie) from The Pet Connection, and sheʼs a wonderful addition to our family and to our home. When we first broughtl her home, I was a little worried about Lucy. She didnʼt wag her tail and she didnʼt seem very cheerful. A trip to our vet assured us she was in good health, so we just gave her time to get used to her new surroundings. After about a week, Lucy must have figured out she was home to stay, because she really started to show her true nature- playful, loving and full of energy. Now her tail never stops wagging.

Before we got Lucy, our other dog, Sophie, a 13 year old Dalmatian, was really starting to slow down and show her age. Now the two of them never get tired of wrestling and chasing each other. Sophie plays with Lucy like sheʼs a young pup again. In fact, since we adopted Lucy, our whole household has become more active and energetic. We play with her and exercise her all the time, and when we arenʼt playing fetch or taking her to Penn Valley dog park, sheʼs busy chasing our 4 cats. The cats arenʼt as crazy about Lucy as she is about them, but its okay, because she keeps us all on our toes. Weʼre so glad we found Lucy, and weʼre so grateful to The Pet Connection for the important work they do for the community and for all the animals they rescue. Thank you!

Sincerely,
Brian & James

Devon

devon Devon rescued us in May of 2008. We decided to keep his name as is not only because we believe he had adjusted to it, but because we had previously 'adopted' a boy of the same name for a Christmas charity in 2007. We never got to meet him, but are convinced that he brought us to Devon the dog as a way of saying thanks. Devon has adjusted very well to his new home. He is a big clown, and keeps us in stiches constantly. He loves playing with his doggy friends, so we take him to TPC obedience center and the SMP dog park on a regular basis. He is a loyal and friendly companion, and we are very greatful to TPC for trusting us with his care in his new forever home!

Trixie

trixie1 trixie2 Everything's going pretty well with Trixie, for the most part. She's still a bit aggressive around other dogs occasionally (like at the dog park), but she's getting better. At home, she's great- very playful and loving. She's even reluctantly accepted my three cats as pack members. Here are a few pics of her with my Malamute, Willow. Thanks again for everything you guys do to help animals. – Jason B.

Shawnee

shawnee Shawnee is doing great. She adapted so well into our home complete with two Dalmations that were rescued from abuse and 3 very active kids ranging from 9-15. Everyday she tries to take over being in control more and more (a true cat). One of our Dalmation's she butts heads with on occasion and the other Dalmation is scared of her (and curious at the same time). She loves the quiet morning time with mom to curl up in a ball on my lap while I have my coffee. At night time she is full of wildness ready to wrestle with dad.

Pistachio

pistachio When I adopted Checkers, I changed his name to Pistachio. One month later I adopted a little brother for him, a buff-colored kitten I named Rhubarb. It took some time and patience to let them adjust to each other, but eventually they did and are now the best of friends. Pistachio loves to watch birds from the window and can usually be found perched up on a windowsill. I just couldn't be happier with my little kitten from the Pet Connection, and I'm so glad that I went there to adopt him.

Pepe

pepe Weezer is now Pépé. She got this name before her well-known gas problems that will clear a room in a heartbeat. She just gets a little excited to see people. She is the youngest of three kitties, she has a 2 year old and 12 year old sister. Her favorite past-times are to play fetch, cuddle/chase her sister Kiki, wear her favorite dresses, go for walks with her sister, and find the nearest box/bag to crawl in and sleep. She has only had two visits to the scary vet. She cuddles with her sisters at night on their very own special body pillow on the bed and play all day. She is quite the social butterfly and will do anything to be the center of attention. She is especially good at playing copy cat of her sister J. I have attached several photos of her favorite things to do. Hope you enjoy! She has been a wonderful addition to the family and I am so excited I found her!

Noodles

noodles Hi there. Noodles is doing wonderful! She has turned out to be the sweetest kitty ever. She is a cuddler. She not only cuddles with us but with our older male cat Otter. They have turned out to be best friends. They bathe one another and chase each other around the house. We love Noodles and are so glad that we have adopted her!

Nikko

nikko It's hard to remember a time when our dear Nikko (pronounced Nee - ko, it is Japanese for "cat") was not with us. She plays with the dog all the time, and chases her toys from one end of our apartment to the other. She is growing quickly, and has really opened up a lot since I first met her. She seemed so quiet and shy at first. Who knew there was a frisky little girl in there? She has settled in nicely, and in spite of a few ornery kitten habits (like trying to eat things off of the kitchen table), she is quite a "joy" to have around.

Neko

neko Neko is doing wonderfully. She's become such a part of my life that I can't imagine it without her here. She's always meets me at the door when I come home and gives me nose kisses when I pick her up. She naps by my side while I do school work. She loves to play with her laser mouse and people watch from the window. Neko sports a lovely red jingle bell collar and even goes on "walks" occasionally (trust me the leash gets plenty of stares). My parents call her the grandkitty and enjoy watching her play. Everyone comments on her inquisitive personality and striking features. I've attached a photo of Neko and one of her favorite toys. Thank you! Laura

Leo

leo Leo is doing wonderful, is the sweetest lap cat ever, and the Purrfect addition to our family! He is a little ornery but, i think he has finally decided to stay off the bird cage, however he still loves to watch our parakeets.....and desperately tries to get outside when we open the door. Hopefully you'll be able to open the picture attached, its of Leo and our young dog Zeus (we had adopted him from another shelter about 1 or 2 months before Leo), they like to cuddle, though Zeus forgets his size sometimes.

Ciara (CiCi) Rose

We adopted CiCi (Formerly Rose) on July 1, 2006. She's a fantastic dog! I owe
an awful lot to her. For the past year, my elderly father (age 88) has been
living with us from Friday afternoons to Monday mornings since he can no longer
care for himself. He has Parkinson's and some dementia. This past Monday
morning, November 17, 2008, CiCi was barking about 4:10 a.m. She wouldn't
settle down, she was upset about something happening outside. My husband got up and discovered my dad had wandered outside due to the dementia. I found him on the driveway where he had fallen. Luckily we had CiCi and she kept pestering
us until we checked it out! I'm so very thankful you took her in from the
Osawatomie Shelter and gave her a chance at life! Because of her, my dad was

India

india We first adopted from The Pet Connection in 2000 when we were blessed with Samantha, a beautiful, loving calico that we called 'Baby'. Late last year 'Baby' passed away unexpectedly, and we were heartbroken, she was such a part of our family. After some time had passed we decided we were ready to start looking for a new family member, and had no doubts about where to go, TPC.

In Feb of this year we adopted a 4 month old kitten named India. India and her 3 siblings had just been to the vet the prior day and were sleeping on top of each other, all we could see of India was her cute little face with some unusual markings. We were able to hold her and she cuddled right up to us and fell asleep in my husband's arms, we knew she was the one.

India has claimed her spot in our home and our hearts. She is very playful, loves to play fetch with her toy mice, and loves to hide mice in the newspaper. She is very vocal and yells at us when she wants to be held, wants to play, or wants us to wake up in the morning. One of her favorite pass times was digging in the house plants after they had been watered. We have since had to rethink how we go about watering the plants, and where we keep them. Needless to say, we absolutely adore India, 'little girl', and are grateful that TPC helped bring so much love into our family.

Oakley

Kaylyn Dear Pet Connection,

I got Oakley for Christmas last year (2007). I was going to pick a different dog, but Oakley picked me. When I got him out of the cage I petted him and loved him, then I put him back to pet another dog and he kept crying and whining at me so I got him back out and he was happy! So I decided to take him home. We call Oakley a lizard because he licks the air like a lizard. He also loves to lick people in their noses and ears - YUCK! He loves to play and be the center of all attention and chases our cat Pepper (Podika, adopted in 2006). He also chases our bigger dogs and tries to play with them, but he can't keep up. All of my siblings are jealous of him, because he is MY DOG forever and ever and ever! I love Oakley so much!!!!!! - Kaylen (age 8... almost 9!) with help from mom

Truman

I just wanted to send you an update on our beautiful kitten, Truman, whom we adopted in November 2007. He is growing into a very large, beautiful cat. He has wonderful golden eyes and long, silky black fur. Truman was 4 months old when we got him (Thanksgiving weekend/also KU/MU football game). Truman is very active, loves to play fetch, and torment our other cat, Gray. I am attaching photos of Truman, one from the weekend we got him and two that was taken recently. Hope you like them. We LOVE him! - Cathy

Daisy Mae

daisy mae About a year and a half ago I adopted the loving Basset Hound Ruby Jean, now Daisy Mae. She has been a wonderful addition to the family and is my baby. At first she did miss her friend Cletus but quickly adapted to all the love and attention. She likes to make visits to my Kindergarten classroom to play with the kids and take upon the role of 'Sad Sam', a character that looks just like her in our reading series. She loves to lay anywhere and being dressed up. I guess you could say she is a little spoiled. Thank you so much for offering this opportunity of inviting a new family member into our lives. Life just wouldn't be the same without Daisy hogging the whole bed at night and snoring the whole time. She is such a joyful, loving girl. Thanks again!!!!

Wilson and Gwen

wilson and gwen Wilson is doing GREAT. When I stopped by The Pet Connection a year-and-a-half ago just to "look around", I had no intention really of getting a pet. But then Wilson "found me" and jumped up on my shoulder and wouldn't get down. He picked me, so what could I do?? I went home and thought about it, then went back to get him. He's been my best buddy every since. Now he's a big boy, all grown up. I was told that his birthday was estimated at around Christmas time, so that's when we celebrate his birthday -- on Christmas. He'll be two this year. I've attached a recent picture of him, along with his "sister", Guinnevere (aka Gwen), who we also adopted from the Pet Connection last Spring. Her name was originally "Blueberry", and she was just a little tiny thing when we first brought her home -- now she's a beautiful long-haired little lady. Gwen and Wilson are great friends and play together A LOT (and get in to mischief together a lot too!). They are spoiled ROTTEN, both of them -- along with our 3 dogs, all previous shelter puppies (now grown, and two of them pretty old now). All our animals get along great together, like a real family. Wilson is my love-bug -- he sleeps at my feet every night, follows me from room to room when I'm at home, loves to be held, and talks to me a lot. I don't think he knows how to control his "purr box" because he purrs almost CONSTANTLY. Maybe he's just a really happy guy. :-) Gwen is very active and most of the time too "busy" to be held. But if you INSIST on holding her (it's hard to resist, she's so soft and fluffy), she'll "let" you hold her for a little while. She loves to be petted and brushed. Though she'd rather not be held most of the time, she does like to follow us around from room to room. She loves to "leap" and will jump up into a bag or light-weight kitty house when you hold it up in the air. She's very animated. Thanks so much for all you do at the Pet Connection. You have a wonderful facility and we are proud to have you in our neighborhood.

Meeko

                  meeko prehaircut             meeko

Buster is now named Meeko. He is a wonderful 8 month old puppy though completely ornery. He gets along great with Lady, our Yorkshire Terrier. Actually he adores her. He follows her all over the house and the yard. He was neutered in early October and given his rabies shot. He came through the surgery with no problems. We hoped he’d sleep that night, but no way…. He was ready to play as soon as he got home. Meeko also has picked out his Halloween costume. He was a pumpkin. His sister Lady was a ladybug. I’ve included a photo. We really love him and are so grateful that he is a part of our family. We promise to take extra special care of him. Thank you for bringing him into our lives. He is everything we hoped for in a companion for our Lady. His hair had gotten quite long and we wondered how he even saw. So we took him to the groomers. We didn't even recognize him when he came out. Can you believe the below pictures are the same pup? He's quite a handsome boy. Oh, and his ear no longer flops over. He seems to have outgrown it (though it was so incredibly cute).

Paris and Nichole

Nichol and Paris I thought you’d like a Christmas photo of Paris and Nichole for your holiday collection. I’d say they are getting along at Goddard Gulch (affectionate name for my home) swimmingly. Although, they weren’t too keen on my tree decorating skills apparently. The maroon ribbon streamer on the tree in the background was on the floor Monday evening when I got home. My wonder-dog Shawnee told me it was Paris’ fault. Santa may leave coal for both of them this year ! - Steve S.

Chestnut and Smokey

chestnut and smokey Our kitties are doing well. As I type this, Chestnut (I believe that was Pumpkin) is sitting on my lap playing with anything she can. Smokey (then Winnie) is also doing well. They are healthy and happy. They are getting along now and even play with each other sometimes. The only thing we have had to do is put them on a diet with light food. They were both over 11 lbs. in just a few months! When we adopted them, Chestnut was 7 lbs and Smokey was 8 lbs. Now they are both around 10 lbs. We love the Innova cat food. It has transformed their coats. They are both so soft. They are both very loving and great companions. They have become members of our family in such a short time. Here are a picture that I took tonight. Smokey is great & Chestnut is black.

Rudy

rudy I am Rudy's new mom. He was formerly known as Lamar, because he was found in Lamar, Missouri and rescued after he had been hit by a car, eventually having to have his leg amputated because he bent the rod they had put in to stabilize it while it healed. We adopted him in June of this year. I am sorry this has taken me so long, and I will send more/better ones when I can. This is Rudy, the little Toy Schnoodle (formerly thought to be full Poodle). I must say that I can not possibly imagine him being faster if he had four legs than he is on three...he is like lightening! When he runs, you can't even see any of his legs. He can outrun both our Pomeranians, and the rabbit that lives under our deck has just about met his Maker more than once. The first picture is him with one of his favorite toys--a stuffed squeky pink elephant. He will run through the house and toss his toys up in the air and try to catch them again in his mouth. I will send more pictures and another update later. Thanks! Sandy B.

Rooney

rooney Our puppy is doing very well. We renamed him Rooney. He has grown to be about 40 lbs and the vet says he is very healthy. Rooney loves to go on jogs with me and my husband. We take him either on a walk or for a jog almost everyday! He plays in the back yard everyday and likes to dig holes. We know it is him because his nose is always dirty. Sometimes we arrange puppy play dates with friends. He loves other dogs. His favorite toy is the kong and he couldn't live without a little peanut butter everyday. It is his favorite guilty pleasure. He loves toys, playing fetch, and licking the dishes in the dishwasher (see picture)! He is very sweet. He follows me everywhere! Overall I think Rooney is a very happy dog and we just love him. Thank you for giving him to us. - Karen

Fletch

fletch Hey Pet Connection! Fletch is great. We adopted him as Fritz, but changed his name to Fletch, it seemed to suit him better. He is a hoot! He loves attention and loves the side of his neck scratched and he loves to lick! He has the most expressive eyes and a most kind face. He has a great gentle disposition as well. We recently went through 2 weeks of visits by family members and he loved all the attention of the kids, ages 1,2,3,9 and a 10. He never growled or struggled with the kids, he just licked them to death! He is a Catahoula and _loves_ to run around the yard....at break neck speeds.
He prances around the yard like a antelope. Too funny! He is a good fetcher, but he would rather we chase him to get the ball back and then he teases, he drops the ball and waits until you are right there and then he snatches the ball away. He is not a barker, mostly only when he wants to play. It has just been fantastic! He has blended with our family famously. We are so glad we found him. He really has just the perfect quirky personality to fit in with our family... Thanks for your help and following up on our new pal. I am glad I came in to the Pet Connection when I did.

Minook

minook

Here are some pictures of Minook in his new home. He's a great addition to the family. He's even a great guard dog, with a bark much bigger than his size. He protects the feline members of the family while they are outside, and does the dance of joy whenever we come home!

pumpkin and winnie We are all doing well. Thank you for asking. The cats are adjusting well to their new home. They have each gained 3 lbs! Here is a picture of the both of them.

Buddy

buddy Train's new name is Buddy. He is doing pretty good. I'm attaching some pics of him. He seems happy and is healthy. He loves going for walks on his leash. He also likes watching the squirrels out the back window. He wants to get out there a chase them, but he never catches them. I got him a squeaky toy of squirrel and he didn't put it down for 2 days! When it's bedtime he goes right to bed without us having to do anything. We kept him in his kennel at first at night time, but he's never had an accident at night, so we leave the kennel open and sometimes he sleeps in there or in the bed with us.

Pepper and Comet

pepper and cometChili Pepper, as Podito is now known, is doing fine. She loves to play and endlesly wants to be loved - by human or another pet. She has the worst coordination that I have ever seen in a cat which makes for some amusing moments. She gets along great with our other cat and the dogs. She has her favorite humans in the house - which is anyone who will sit and pet her. The picture is of Comet (Pepper's playmate) and Pepper putting the playpen to good use. Lucky for the cats, the baby didn't like to sleep in the playpen so it worked out well for their bed!

Cisco

cisco Thank you for your follow-up call regarding Cisco a.k.a. "Clyde", the Rat Terrier that we adopted in May. Below is a picture of Cisco catching bubbles in our front yard. A local veterinarian gave him a clean bill of health recently and he's adjusting to his new family quite nicely. We love him very much.

Britny

britny Britny was adopted March 17, 2007. She is a sweet, loving girl with a wonderful disposition. Britny knew no commands, didn't know how to walk on a leash, and was not completely housetrained when we got her. She has made a beautiful transition to our home and is now housetrained and has the run of the house when we are gone with no problems! She is a star student in her obedience class and her instructor always gives her great feedback on how smart she is and how quickly she learns. In just a few weeks, she has learned "sit", "stay", "down". She has even perfected walking on a leash! She loves all dogs and people. Her favorite things to do are taking a trip to the petstore, hiding her bones under pillows on the couch, playing fetch, having her head and tummy rubbed, and playing with our four kids. She gets to go many places with us including the park, baseball games and friends' houses. We can't say enough great things about Britny--she is truly a wonderful addition to our family!
Thank you, Pet Connection

Buck and Callie

I wanted to update you on a cat I adopted a few months ago. In February, I adopted a kitty named Buck. He was very shy, and after I brought him home, hid under my dishwasher/cabinets for THREE days. Today he is not that same shy cat. Everyday when I get home, Buck greets me with the rest of the kitties. He will sometimes let me pet him, but will definitely talk to me and nuzzle everything in sight. Buck also loves his treats, and will sing for them with the rest of his family. He loves to be scratched after his treat. He will cuddle with Dot and Nala, and loves to get kisses from Furball. You can find him hanging out in the windows or playing on the cat tree. Buck has become such a wonderful part of this family, and hasn't hid in a long time. He even lets my neighbor pet him! Thank you for allowing me to bring Buck into my family. He is wonderful!!! I have included a few pictures so you can see how happy he is! :) - Mary (and Furball, Dot, Nala, Boots, and Buck)

Ginger and Beatrice

ginger Here is the picture of Ginger and Beatrice on Ginger's first night with us. Didn't take her any time at all to settle in! Obviously Bea and Ginger got along great immediately! I think Ginger is doing her best to fill the void left in our lives when Clara (pug) was taken from us prematurely after a wonderful 9 years by congestive heart failure.

Maggy

maggy I adopted Maggy (2-year old miniature schnauzer) last Saturday (8/5/06) and WHAT a week we've had!! She is an absolute DOLL!! Saturday after leaving Pet Connection, we drove to a park we had never been to before so that the dogs (we also have a Maltese) could get to know each other in a neutral location. Boundaries were tested and established by all and after about an hour we headed home. Much to my delight the transition has gone much better than I expected. Though she still doesn't come when called and will bolt whenever the front door opens, we are working on it -- I've got a leash over each doorknob as a preventive and am working on sit/stay and down/stay -- she's learning fast. We feel VERY blessed to have her in our family! Thank you so much!

Sage

sage I thought you might enjoy seeing a photo of the puppy we adopted in April 2006. We kept his name as Sage which was given to him at Pet Connection. He is a great fit for our family. Sage loves swimming in the pond with my daughters and he has lots of energy for hours of play. He is also very sweet and loves to cuddle during naps and bedtime. Thank you for all you do to save animals and find them their forever homes.

Pancho

pancho Hello All! I just wanted to drop you all a line and let you know what a wonderful time we are having with Pancho! He is such a good dog and such a wonderful pet. He has gotten use to his new surroundings and his new little sister, Rosie. She's a Pekinese. They play together everyday and when she's had enough...she let's him know. Overall, they get along very well. The accidents around the house are virtually nil. He does get very excited when we come home from work/school and so, it is sometimes hard to get him to calm down. Around bedtime, he's gone to the bathroom and ready to just cuddle up for the night. Pancho has been a wonderful addition to our family. We look forward to the many pleasant years ahead with our beloved pet. Thank you so much for connecting us with him. Warmly, Crystal, Christopher & Thomas

Sammy

I am more and more taken with this guy. I can hardly believe I'm the lucky one who got to bring him home. He's a licker! He loves to get right up in my face and give me a wash. Today he's a little friskier than yesterday...chasing balls around the room. What fun to watch! He seems quite pleased to be where he is. We've gotten in some good bonding time. He's a snuggler. Yippee! I haven't had a real true snuggler in a while. We've decided to call him Sammy, short for the Sanskrit word "Samadhi," (Suh-mah'-dee) which means "Joyful Bliss. " It seems to fit him very well.

Cisco

cisco Cisco's transition went pretty smooth, a few things were chewed on, and bolted out the door a few times, but now we have really bonded. He comes on command and no longer chews on anything, and he is a very loving dog. He gets along great with everybody, and brings comic relief to everybody. The neighbors cannot get enough of him, I will often see them by the fence petting and talking to him. I have been working a lot with him on his commands, sit, stay, by me, and off. He no longer bolts out the door. Recently a friend left the door open and he wandered out but came back on command. We've taught him a few other tricks that brings humor......call me weird, but I can get him to howl, to me there is nothing cooler than husky talk. Also when my dad comes around he tries to teach him to smile, kind of funny. Cisco spends much of his time outside, but that is not our choice, he just loves being outside, but when he's inside he is right by my side. You could say he spends 50 percent inside and 50 percent of his time outside. I would just like to thank the Pet Connection for setting me up with such a great dog, and taking the time to make sure all your animals are in good homes. Hopefully this summer I will be able to stop by with Cisco.

Coco

Just wanted to say thank you again for the joy that our puppy Coco (previously named Jenny Bean) has brought us over the last year. We adopted Coco in the middle of August 04 and she weighed only 11 lbs. True to her Border Collie genes, she is now about 40 lbs and full of unending energy (although she still has plenty of black lab features and traits mixed in - like pure love of swimming). She has become quite adept at Frisbee catching and is going to begin training with some extended family members soon who own another Border Collie that just recently placed 9th in nationals in Orlando, FL. So Coco has her work cut out for her, but we think she will hold her own just fine (and if nothing else, it is a great way to wear her out a little from time to time). We love her so much and are so thankful we were able to adopt her through your organization! Proud parents, Brian & Carolyn

I am really enjoying my home and I have a big brother named Oliver-we are getting along pretty good -we love to play. Picasso

My husband and I adopted Picasso from the Pet Connection last May. We wanted to let you know how Picasso is doing as well as send some pictures your way. Shortly after we adopted him, we moved from an apartment to a house and he loves all the additional space. He's a wonderful cat and such a sweetheart. He's definitely our little "angel". We've crowned Picasso the champion snuggler in our family. He loves to snuggle with me on the couch. He'll stretch out next to me when I'm laying down on the couch and we'll take naps together. He also loves to sleep on the ottoman in our hearth room. Wherever my husband and I are, he always enjoys being in our company. We've bought him toys from the pet store but he likes playing with my hair bands the most. He'll slide them around on the floor and inevitably they wind up going under the fridge, couch or a closet door. My husband claims that he's the world's most spoiled cat but we just can't help ourselves! He's been a great addition and we can't imagine our lives without our furry little bundle of joy! We hope that his brothers are happy in their new homes as well. Thanks for rescuing him and allowing us the opportunity to make him a part of our family. Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Hannah, Pilchard, Ava

This wonderful family specializes in rescuing special needs kitties. They adopted Hannah from us a while back. Hannah is a semi-feral cat. Then they adopted Pilchard. With Pilchard they were looking for a non-special needs cat that would be good with their son. He fit the mold perfectly. When they came back in, we mentioned that if we'd realized they were a special needs family, we would have introduced them to Ava. Poor Ava was born with her 3rd eyelids adhered to her eye. They asked to see her and immediately took her into their family. Ava has since gained a 55%-60% of her vision back (far more than we had thought). All three cats are doing wonderfully in their new home. They get along great with their family and each other. We are grateful to this family, who was willing to open their home and their hearts to a few "special" kitties

Pheobe

Hello, my name is Phoebe. I LOVE my new family. When my owner was no longer able to care for me, I was placed in the loving care of The Pet Connection. After 4 long months I was beginning to think that I was never going to have a new family, because, I was considered a “senior cat” at the age of 12. Everyone is always looking for kittens or adolescents. Then came that joyous evening in June when my new mom and dad came looking for a “senior cat”. I was so happy. I have lots of toys, have the run of the house, sleep where I want, and have all the love that any cat could ever want. I am also quite entertaining for my new family. My favorite thing to do is help myself to the fuzzy green slippers in mom’s closet. They are fun to drag around and a great treasure to present to mom and dad. Of course, they always know I am on the way with a treasure as I meow all the way. They always tell me “Thank you!” I have adjusted with the greatest of ease and not only am I happy, but my new family is so glad that I came into their lives. We are very happy together. Love, Pheob

Vicki and Nicole

vicki and nicole Both dogs settled in very well in a short amount of time. Vicki Lee sleeps on our bed under the sheet every night and likes to touch me with her body. Nichole Ruth does not like to be covered up and chooses different places to sleep on any given evening. When we are watching TV Vicki Lee lays beside me on the couch and Nicole Ruth wants to be held. They have very different personalities and we allow them to be who they are. Nicole Ruth does not like children or sudden movements that startle her. So we make sure to help her avoid those situations. Vicki Lee is more laid back. We have a pet door so our dogs can go out when they want and a large fenced in back yard for play and exercise. All four of our dogs have adjusted well to each other and respect each others space.

My husband and I are retired so we are home most of the time. I guess you could say our dogs are like our children so we are a family. When we travel Vicki Lee and Nicole Ruth go with us. They both love to ride and are very well behaved in the car.

I love these little dogs so much it's hard to put into words. I feel very sad for the person that had to give them up. I know they were loved and well taken care of in their previous home and we are doing the same for them. Many people are looking for puppies to adopt but I could not be happier with these sweet, adult dogs we adopted from the Pet Connection. Vicki Lee has asthma now and will be on medication for the rest of her life. It doesn't slow her down a bit. Nicole Ruth has had several growths removed but she is fine and gets groomed every 8 weeks. Both dogs are healthy and well adjusted and have brought so much love into our home. We are never lonely or alone and all of our pets live inside with us.

Jewel

jewel When I first met my adoptive family, I was almost a year and a half old. I liked Robert from the very beginning and tried to convince him to take me home with him so that I could live with his family, Alison and Kevin, and their other dogs. We all sensed how well I would get along with their other dogs, two of which were Siberian Huskies. One of them even had the same name as me—Cheyenne. Unfortunately, they were just stopping in to donate some goodies and were unable to add any more dogs to their family. With much disappointment, we all said goodbye. Three months went by, and I found myself in increasingly difficult circumstances. My first adoptive family had returned me to the shelter and I was depending on the Pet Connection to take care of me. I tried so hard to be good, but I’m a Siberian Husky-Malamute mix and that means I need an extraordinary amount of exercise and playtime. I knew I was stubborn and often tried the patience of my humans, but I always tried to make up for it with lots of love and husky hugs. Some days I wondered if I would ever find a home. Jewel with best friend Diablo. Then one day to my surprise I heard a familiar voice. I sat up in my kennel wide-eyed with excitement. It was Robert. He and Alison started crying when they saw I was back at the shelter. They had just suffered the loss of their irreplaceable 10-year old Siberian Husky-Lab mix, Cheyenne. All day Robert had felt he must stop by the shelter. They didn’t know why until they walked in and saw me, waiting for them. I always knew we’d end up together. I moved into my new home that night. When we arrived, I discovered that in addition to the three new humans in my life, there were three new dog friends for me too: Ginger, a 13 year old German Shepherd who tries to keep me in line; Angelo, a 4 year old American Eskimo who just doesn’t understand why I’m so much bigger than him; and Diablo, my best dog friend, a 2 year old Siberian Husky who has taught me all kinds of fun tricks to play on my humans. It was a little hard for everyone to call me Cheyenne after their loss, so now I gladly answer to my new name, Jewel. I spoil Robert with attention and love to spend my evenings curled up in my very own recliner next to his desk. In the mornings I sing to everyone with my best Malamute voice and try very hard to sit and shake paws rather than tackle them. I get so excited to see my family that it’s really hard to not go overboard. While the family is at work and school, my best dog friend works with me to keep the lawn dug up. It’s really fun to drag things out through the doggy door and see how long it takes the family to notice. In that huge yard, there’s plenty of places to hide their favorite belongings. I’m so cute, I can usually get away with it. On the weekends we go for truck rides. And even though I love all these things even more than walks, this summer I discovered the best part of dog life ever: camping trips!

Dear Melody,
Thanks so much for finding me a good home. I have a big shady yard and love to run. My folks tell me I'm handsome. My hair is now long and shiny and I weigh about 30 pounds. I get lots of treats. My greatest problem is barking but I'm learning to be quieter. Love, Baltimore

Abendago

Our Abendago (Benny) is cuddly and happy as ever. Benny is like a dog we say. He likes to lick and cuddle. We love it so much! Benny and Scappy are getting along great. They cuddle with one another, clean each other, and play. We have separate litter boxes and food dishes still but they seem to share both of them.
Scappy wasn't to sure at first about the new addition but after just a week they where ready to cuddle up with one another. They each have there favorite spots to take there naps. Abendago likes to be the center of attention but Scappy doesn't seem to mind. Andy's fav. nick name for Abendago is Butter Ball Ben. Abendago gets called a lot of different names now but mostly just Benny, the pretty kitty! We love our babies! Thanks! - Erin and Andy

Molly

molly Ragmuffin's named turned into Molly and Molly turned out to be a pretty special pussy cat. Molly enjoys sleeping in our bed at night and on the back of the couch in the day. When she isn't resting, she likes to play and eat like all kittys. At night while we are watching television, she gets a "spa treatment" from my husband that includes hair brushing, ear and belly rubs, and overall body massages. We didn't think this little gal would adjust so well, but we let her get use to us and her new home in her own time. We don't make her do anything she doesn't want to and when it thunders we let her go to her special safe place that it took us months to find. I know when it's time for me to get up in the morning because Molly paws and purrs at me until I do. As you can see from her picture, she is quite camera shy, so this is about the only evidence of her we have to share. Please rest assured she is thriving. I think she has gained a little weight (she makes more noise when she jumps off the bed) and her fur is shiny, soft and matte free. Last, but not least, she is very vocal and she trills and chips her opinions during our conversations. We all got lucky that rainy Sunday afternoon when we met for the first time.

Danny

Hello,
Danny is already featured on the Happy Tails web page, but I thought I'd send a quick update. It's been a year now and our little shy guy has come full circle. He was so shy and so scared in the beginning. It took him 3 months to start staying in the same room with us, and at least 6 months before we could approach him, without having to wait for him to come to us.

I'm happy to report that Danny is now the more outgoing of our two cats. He enjoys meeting new people and follows me around the house. He even recently started sleeping in my bed, curled up against me. To see him now you'd think he'd spent his whole life having the run of the house. He's an amazing little guy, thank you for helping us find him! - Michelle

Nellie

Nellie came into my life unexpectedly at a time when things in my life had gone a bit off track. My father had recently been diagnosed with cancer and was deteriorating much more rapidly than we had anticipated. In the beginning I was not sure I wanted another dog as our house was full already with two older dogs, a cat, a husband and two teenage step-children. When my step-son came to me and asked if I could take in Nellie, my instincts were to tell him no that there was no more room at the inn! The last thing I thought I needed was a puppy to chase around and clean up after. It turns out I couldn't have been more wrong. Nellie completely took my mind off of everything that was going on at that point in my life. I never grew tired of watching her boundless energy and enthusiasm for whatever task she set her mind to. She was a constant source of awe for me watching her in all her little endeavors, whether it be trying to dig her way to China in the backyard or trying to get you to rub her tummy by sitting up on her hind legs and then falling over backwards exposing her tummy when you walked by. She was and still is amazing in my eyes, I found myself looking forward to getting home each day after sitting with my father so Nellie could rejuvenate my energy and lift my spirits, a task she has yet to fail at. Nellie was able to lift my father's spirits as well on several occasions and I'm glad he got to know her before he passed away. I guess ultimately you never know when your seemingly drained heart can unexpectedly be filled back up again by the love of one of our furry friends. - Sandi O.

Chico

chicoChico came in and gave us a run for our money. We adopted him out, but his problems were too severe for the first home. He literally would jump up and grab the back of my hair and pull me to the ground. He was not ever bad natured, just unruly. He came from HSGKC and was one of the earlier pulls from KCKACO in April of... 2007. I can't believe that we have been able to do this in such a short period of time. Chico was definitely a rehabilitation dog and wasn't easy for his new owners. But look what
they get to enjoy now..... good things come to those who wait. How cute!

Kiki

kiki1kiki2kiki3kiki4I adopted Kiki (formerly Bebe) in June 2009 and I couldn't be happier with her. It took some time but she has adjusted very well and loves to be the center of attention. I have to buy her a new toy almost every week because she absolutely destroys/pulls out all the stuffing within a couple days. She is also a great running partner. We run 3-5 miles most days of the week and when she sees me put my ipod on she goes crazy and heads for the door. She has no problems playing with other dogs and she is one of the fastest at the dog park. My roommate recently bought a Boxer mix puppy so she has a new friend to keep her company. One of my favorite things about her is that she keeps me warm at night when she curls up right next to my pillow. I am so thankful to Pet Connection for allowing Kiki to be part of my family.

Beanie (Mr. Beans)

BeanieOur addition from TPC, Beanie, a black pomeranian, is doing well and has become a true member of the family. He does have occasional "accidents" (which I think is more showing attitude than ability to know where to go) and he LOVES to run away...probably just so he is chased. I am very thankful for his microchip on those times, although we haven't lost him for more than an hour or so any one time.

My husband, myself, and our other dog, Espresso, all love Mr. Beans (his "not in trouble name") and have enjoyed playing with him. Espresso and Beans have rather funny ways of playing with one another, but are respectful and generally keep it to play-biting and a LOT of running...when the snow isn't taller than Beans.

I have attached a picture from my computer at work - it is my background on my computer at school.

I know there is "help" out there for us, but Beanie seems to be okay most of the time, he just likes to poo inside sometimes - usually to let us know he wasn't happy about something. We also have limited time to come on Thursdays, so haven't made it to a session yet, but look forward to maybe trying this summer - when my schedule isn't as hectic.

Loki

lokiLoki (formerly Odie) was adopted in December 2007. We were looking for a playmate for our other lab mix named Rock. After looking at numerous, adorable puppies, we found ourselves at The Pet Connection and fell in love with Loki. The only question was whether Loki and Rock would get along. Of course, they got along great when they had a little play date. We had no idea that they would become inseparable brothers! Loki was always scared of taking baths, getting his nails trimmed, etc. Rock nuzzles with Loki while he is being groomed, trying to keep him calm. (It works!) When they are just lying around the house, it is very likely to spot them curled up in a ball on the couch. You can hardly tell where one begins and the other ends except for the fact Rock is brown and Loki is black. They are always looking out for each other. We couldn’t have asked for a better match.

Thanks to everyone at The Pet Connection!

him and returned him to you, then on to us. Since then, we have been working with him to come to us when we call his name. The training is going really well and he always returns when called! Overall, he is fitting in very well with our other Pet Connection adoptee Boots, the cat, and her older sister Izzie the cat. I have enclosed a picture from Halloween of Oscar. Thanks for checking up on him and us. Happy holidays to everyone at The Pet Connection!

He's visited Dr. Brown at the vet across the street a few times to get his latest shots and hasn't had any major condition beyond parasites, but we've gotten that taken care of.

Thank you for emailing me to see how he is doing! I'll send along a few pictures so you can see how happy he is. :)

Happy Holidays!

Ellie

     ellieellie2Hello!

Ellie is doing nicely, we're all very happy. She's a lap cat, very cuddly, likes to play, purrs a lot, is gentle with the girls, and keeps off the table. We love her. I like her habit of taking over the newspaper and snuggling while I read. The children love her to sleep with them, of course. The other cats have adjusted too, one is still hissing, however we expect it to dissipate.

Happy Holidays, and thanks for checking!

Babe

babeBabe is doing amazing. She has learned lots of new tricks including playing dead and high five. She comes out to the barn weekly and goes on trail rides with my horse and I. She has formed quite a bond with my horse, they completely trust each other. I have attached a photo I took with my phone of babe laying with my cat. I couldn't have gotten a more perfect dog.

Thanks so much,

Mattie Merriman

Pax

        pax1 pax2
We adopted our dog (then called Louie) on August 21st. We have renamed him... (his name is now Pax). He did have a few minor housebreaking issues at first but we have figured his signals now and he sleeps in a kennel. He seems happy to do so since he goes right into the kennel when we let him back in from going potty in the evening before we go to bed.

   pax3 pax4
He is a very happy little dog and loves to play with us and the kitties. His favorite toys are squeaky toys but he also loves little stuffed toys as well. He likes to sleep in my chair or on my husband's lap during the day or evening. I'm including a few photos of him so you can see how well he has adapted to our home.

FreddieHere's an unposed shot of Phillip (now Freddie), the smaller shepherd on the left) with our other dog Bart. We adopted Freddie in the fall of 2009, after I had walked him as a volunteer several times; I thought he would be a good companion for Bart following the death of our beloved older dog Lucas. Freddie and Bart get along great and Freddie reminds us so much of Lucas sometimes that our daughter calls him "Lukey's Spirit."

Harry

       harry
Hi,
Just wanted to let you know we love Harry (formally known as Caleb)! Sam our Swiss Mountain dog mix and Harry are inseparable and they play constantly. It's so wonderful to see them so happy together. Our Little Chihuahua Coco also likes Harry and isn't even bothered when Harry occasionally bumps into her. This is really amazing since she is old (13 yrs.) and very cranky. Harry loves to cuddle, spend time in the yard, and go to the dog park. He has not got the hang of walking on a leash yet, but is improving. We are so happy to have him in our lives!

Thank You,
Pamela

Reggie

ReggieNewly engaged, my fiance and I adopted Reggie in March 2009. Since the adoption we have relocated so Reggie can have more time to play. We now live in a complex with a 30,000 square foot off leash dog park called, "The Bark." Reggie gets to play with neighborhood dogs twice a day everyday. He has a crush on the dog upstairs named Lola. He has such a plethora of toys that we had to make him a personal toy box. Reggie loves to lay on his faux fur bed by the window and watch nearby kids play outside. He gets along very well with everyone who encounters him. He is dearly loved and a great asset to our new family. Thank you Pet Connection for helping us find a great dog.

God bless,

Brittany and Royal Whitaker

Amber

    AmberAmber2

Amber (originally Lady) was adopted in February of 2009 after my husband and I decided our puppy Keira needed a playmate. After hearing about Amber's great disposition on 105.1 as we were getting up one Thursday, I did some investigation. We were AMAZED at how similar our puppies looked and the fact they were thought to be the same age was exciting as well. Our house was a bit chaotic at first while Amber adjusted, but now, her and Keira love playing tag, fetch and wrestling all day. Amber
has put on 5 pounds and doesn't look as emaciated as she did when we first got her, and Keira doesn't know what to do without her new best friend. Thank you Pet Connection for our newest forever pet, and Thanks also to Jack 105.1FM radio station in the morning for helping us locate
the best companion for our Keira!

Sincerely, Amanda and Adam Wise

Stuart

stuartHi. I adopted Stuart last year towards the end of February 2008. He is doing great. He is still energetic and LOVES to play with balls and stuffed animals. He gets along great with kids and other animals. He is quite friendly with a guinea pig I had a few months back. He is an inside dog. He likes going to Shawnee Mission Park's dog area. I've never had a problem with him being violent to ANYTHING except maybe his stuffed animals. He is very lovable and sometimes thinks he's a lapdog. He loves going "bye bye"..You can't say them words around him unless you are actually going to take him....I'm including a picture of us on Memorial Day weekend. In the picture it looks like he doesn't like the hat I'm wearing.

Thank you.

Duchess

Introducing our newest family member!

duchess4Here is Duchess! We adopted Duchess from The Pet Connection (in Mission, Ks) on May 14th 2009. She has become so comfy, so quickly. She is so lovable and blends into the family perfectly. She especially likes to hang out with Henry, our red Doxie. Her favs are: going on walks, laying on soft blankies, playing with toys, chasing bunnies in the back yard and tender affection. Now Laura, our Aussie Mix, has two Doxies to keep tabs on.

chachiHello!

We adopted a dog from The Pet Connection in early 2009, and just wanted to let you know how happy we are having him as a member of our family. He was named Cecil when we adopted him, but we have named him Chachi. He’s such a happy little guy – we really love him a lot. Thanks so much for running such a great shelter. Here is a recent picture of Chachi.

Thanks!!

Tulsa

        tulsa1     tulsa2

Hello I wanted to share with you all how my puppy is doing. I met my baby backstage at KC Fashion Week and couldn’t sleep at all that night. The next morning I went straight to The Pet Connection to take her home. I knew that she was my dog. I changed her name to Tulsa from Jackie. Everyone that meets her instantly falls in love with her and she gets attention everywhere we go. She loves to go out on errands with me or to The Brooksider and sit out on the patio. On June 6 of this year Tulsa was one of my models for the 18th Street Fashion Show. She was an instant hit. Tulsa even made the paper. It has been wonderful having her and can’t believe how in love I am with her. Tulsa has also taken a trip to Nebraska with me to the parents farm and loved, loved, loved the pastures and barn. She had so many fun things to sniff and chase. The baby pheasants were her favorite. In a couple of weeks we are going to Tulsa, Oklahoma for a horse show, that should be another fun adventure. Thanks again, I think you guys are doing such a wonderful thing helping out families needed the love of an animal and of course helping out all the misplaced animals.

Just a note to let you know Emma is doing great. I am sending a couple of pictures so you can see a little of her life now. I was worried she would be afraid of my husband's electric wheelchair but she is not at all frightened. They are now the closest of buddies and she is always following him around. Remember she had a problem of with running away? Well she did that with us for awhile too but once she settled in that has stopped. She sits outside with Jim without a leash all the time - day or night. She knows the boundaries on our yard and stays there unless she is invited to say hi to a neighbor. We also have a handicapped daughter and Emma is so good with her too. You will see a picture of her kissing Megan...Megan really likes to get a kiss before she goes to bed at night. Emma also gets very excited when our little granddaughters come over - you can see she was raised with little kids. Emma is a wonderful, loving addition to our family. Thank you for caring for her and
bringing her to us!

Daisy

 daisy1 daisy2 daisy3

We renamed her Daisy. She's a huge cuddlebug and loves bellyrubs and gets along well with our other Chihuahua, Buster (who is very picky about who he likes). She is treated like a little princess and sleeps under the covers with us every night.

She does have a tendency to bark at people and dogs walking by when she's watching out the window, though, and she does still exhibit some aggression to new dogs (we are working on this slowly). But with people, she will bark until they're about 10 feet away and then she will be all waggy and love them.

If you have any more information or anecdotes at all regarding "Honey" and her puppies, please let me know. I would love to know as much about her background as I can because she's such a great addition to our family.

Here are some pictures of her. I can send you some more if you want, just as soon as we get a chance to transfer them from our digital camera to the laptop:

Jinxy

jinxy1 jinxy2Well, where do I begin with 9-month-old Jinxy? When I adopted him 12 days ago, I was told he'd been returned because he was too rambunctious. Well, a more laid back cat, I'd never seen UNTIL after about 5 days he discovered he was forever home ….

Oh my, come 10:00 at night, apparently someone fills his gas tank because he takes off running throughout the house as if shot out of a cannon. He makes me laugh!

I wasn’t sure after recently losing my Onyx (1999 rescue) that I would ever enjoy another cat so much but Jinxy is slowly filling that void left in my life. He is such a joy; very loving and gentle! Grandkids absolutely adore him because he lets them carry him all over, cuddle with him and just pet him endlessly. Never moves - until 10:00 p.m. (giggle!)

I also have another cat, Feisty, (2000 rescue) who lives up to her name. She has made it quite clear that she is the Queen of the household and he is the peasant. They are still adjusting to each other and I hope they will be buddies soon although Feisty is very slow at warming up to Jinxy.

A funny story: Feisty was sound asleep on the arm of my recliner, legs "flopped" over the leather arm, really relaxed. I guess in Jinxy's mind, he'd waited long enough for her to wake up because he slowly crept over, sat up on his hind legs and proceeded to slap her silly with both his paws. Needless to say, she came up off that recliner just a-screeching! It was so funny!

Next was his turn. About 30 minutes later he's sitting on my lap (same recliner) really relaxed also, head laid back, tummy being stroked, tail hanging over the side of the recliner arm. Feisty decides it is payback time! She slowly and very quietly inches herself around the back of my chair, walks along side, BITES HIS TAIL and then takes off running! Hysterical! Jinxy just kind of sat up like, "What? What just happened?" As I mentioned above, he's pretty
laid back.

Anyway, that's my first of what I believe to be many funny stories. I just can't thank your staff, facility and all associated with The Pet Connection enough for the work you do. Shelters for these animals are such an important
part of our lives. Personally, I'd love to adopt them all. Pets are God's way of showing Earthly unconditional love.

Thanks again. Marge B.

Maxwell

maxwell  maxwell Hello everyone!

Many thanks to all, and thank you Donna for showing us Jose (now Maxwell) on Friday, 10/31/08.

Maxwell has adapted exceptionally well as an indoor cat, and our 13 1/2 y/o Sally orange girl loves him dearly. She has lost weight (a very good thing) running up and down the stairs and in and out of the cat tunnel with him. They like to tug opposite ends of strings, and sleep very close to each other.

Maxwell gets Science Diet Dry "Healthy Development", as well as Science Diet wet kitten food. He is right at 11 1/2 pounds. VERY active cat ...loves to fetch about anything ... strings, feathers and especially furry toys.

MANY thanks to all of you!

Spook

spook I changed Laci's name to Spook. It fits her personality. She has settled in quite well. Good appetite, happy with the litter, lots of play and demands to be able to curl up and nap on my chest. She does a great deal of purring. She started out a little wild but has calmed down now and is doing fine. She likes to lick my hand so I think I am accepted as her family. We are doing well together.

Gus

gus When Gus came to TPC in September, he was in really bad shape. He was extremely malnourished, had tapeworms, a gash on the back of his head, mangy hair, ear mites, a bladder infection, arthritis, was not neutered, etc.

It was clear when we brought him home that he had never been in a house before, never played with a toy, and never walked up and down stairs. He has grown healthier every day. He has gained weight (perhaps even a bit too
much!). He has a thick, beautiful coat. He loves to go on walks and take naps. He's even learned to enjoy the challenge of getting a treat out of his Kong. He follows us in and out of every room of the house and he gets along great w/his two feline brothers.

Gus is a wonderful family member. We love him very much and look forward to making his senior years as healthy and happy as possible. Thank you so much for taking him in!

Tigger

tigger I adopted Punkin the first of December and my son and I renamed him Tigger. I have never known such a loving kitten. He rules the house! Tigger races around the house getting our older cat Duke to engage him in play. He plays and plays! He loves to be where I am. At night he sleeps either beside me or across my neck. Duke is coming to know Tigger better and I foresee that they will be fast friends before too much longer. I am thrilled with this kitten!!

Pookers (Candy)

pookers We adopted "Candy", we renamed her Pookers, and she's been a part of our family now for 4 months. She easily adjusted to our other cat, Boji. She took a little longer to warm up to Dakota, our beagle, but now she follows him everywhere and if he doesn't pay attention to her, she will swat at him to get him to chase her. Some of her favorite things to do (besides playing tag with Boji and Dakota), are to play soccer with anything that rolls, playing fetch with her little bean bag, and cuddling with anyone who sits down. She loves following all of us around, and seems to have the ability to suddenly appear out of nowhere no matter which part of the house we're in! She seems to have made our 9 year old Boji feel younger again - Boji is suddenly more active and playful! We can't imagine life without her now and we're so thankful to The Pet Connection for hooking us up with her. She's adorable & demonic all at the same time. Our other cat Boji is quite a talker, and now Pookers is too! You can have conversations with her, she'll talk and answer questions - its so cute! She's growing quickly - in fact, she is probably going to be a fairly large cat when she's full grown! She is now about 8 months old and despite having to re-adjust to all the things kitties get into (having an "old" cat made us forget how energetic and curious kitties are!!!), we love her! Just a note about her picture - this is not typical of her - she does not act as sophisticated as she looks in the photo - we just caught her in a rare quiet moment. Microseconds after the picture was taken, she was attacking the camera strap.

Lady

lady We adopted lady in August of 2007 and just thought I would update you and let you see how happy she is. She was a big of a challenge at first because she is so active & high strung, but with a little age & a lot of patience, she has become such a sweet dog. She is a good protector for my kids & grandkids. No one is ever going to just come in my house, invited or not without some reaction from her. She really likes to take care of the people that love her. At night she likes to sleep between my pillow and the head of the bed. We have just started letting her stay out when we are gone, she has been kennel'd up till recently. She still had so much orneryness in her, I think she was a little younger than we thought when we got her. She is a real sweetheart and her most favorite thing in the world to do is swim in our pool, but she only does that when we are in there. She just doesn't want to be left out, she likes being the center of attention. Thank you for taking care of this special little dog and allowing us to bring her into our family.

Happy Holidays, Laura H.

Just wanted to send an update about Zeke. After getting him this past June, he has transitioned easily into our home and we can't imagine what it would be like without him. He gets along with our 2 cats, and he likes to chase them around and play fight with Ollie, the boy. Zeke loves to snuggle up and sleep next to us on the couch and he jumps up and down on his hind legs when he gets excited and when he greets us at the door. He's such a good jumper, we joke that he is also part kangaroo. Thank you Pet Connection! Zeke sends his love!

Samantha (Sammy)

samantha Dear Pet Connection,
Samantha (I call her Sammy) has adjusted wonderfully in her new home. She has become my little buddy. She's the best little blessing I've had in the last six months. When I adopted her, I had separated from my husband, and have recently filed for divorce. Sammy has been such a sweet, lovable companion throughout a very painful time in my life. She is such a joy to have around. Rest assured that the connection we've made has been a major success. Thank you for letting me adopt her.

I've attached a recent picture of Sammy. As you can see, she is very photogenic.

She is still very loveable and really enjoys being around kids and other dogs. A great addition to the family! -Brian

Tuxedo

tuxedo To the wonderful people at Pet Connection,

Tux, short for Tuxedo, is doing great. She and her sister, an adoptee from the St. Joe city animal shelter, are partners in crime. Tux could not handle being alone. She needed a friend to help her expend her extra energy. If she doesn't know where sister Skittles is, she cries. Tux was unable to have bedroom privileges until she was about 7 months. Now she behaves, having no inappropriate urinating issues. Our vet advised one litter box per cat plus one. I believe that helped. I also want to say thanks for the scratching post we bought. It is great. Neither cat scratches furniture. They use the post as well as strategically placed extra scratching boxes around the house. Our only problem is counter jumping. We use a squirt gun but it doesn't help that much. We do not feed people food however both must have been fed scraps at some time as they are great crumb patrollers. Keep up the good work that you do. Thank you for the joy we receive via Tux. - Elaine & Leslie

Daisy

       daisy      daisy1

I just wanted to give you an update on a dog I adopted a year ago in August. Her name was Cherry on Petfinder, but now her name is Daisy. She’s doing great and gets along extremely well with her “brother”, Jack, who was with me when I picked her up from your shelter. She loves to play and attack her toys. She also loves to play chase with my boyfriend who’s new favorite past time is to play “chase” with her. The two of them are like three year olds running around the house! We took them to the lake last weekend and took some pictures after they dried off. I thought your staff would like to see how well she’s doing. She’s a wonderful dog and a CONSTANT source of entertainment. She’s just generally happy and I think if she was a person she would have an eternal grin on her face. Daisy is the blonde terrier mix in case you don’t have her file anymore. - Thanks! Michele B.

Stella I adopted Sadie last year and she is doing wonderful! We have changed her name to Stella which she picked up very quickly. After a little adjustment, Stella loves her new home and enjoys playing with her yellow lab brother, Emerson. We have a fenced yard that Stella loves to play for hours. She has become quite the lover. She sleeps at the foot of the bed every night and attempts to steal a kiss every chance she gets. She has been an amazing addition to our family. We love her and wouldn't give her up for anything! - Sarah

Baby

baby It's been several months now and Baby's personality has emerged in many adorable and unique ways. The only problem is that she and our other cat do not get along quite yet. We still keep them separated while we are away and keep a close eye on them when we are home.

A couple things we have found out about Baby is that she LOVES LOVES LOVES water. We have caught her many times up on the kitchen counter seeking any standing water and, yes.....in the potty (we keep the lid closed now) so I give her an extra large bowl of water now. She also likes to have the faucet turned on low for her whenever you are in the bathroom so she can drink from her own personal water fountain. She loves to perch atop the TV whenever it is on-I don't know if it is the warmth or just having the eagle's-eye advantage. She has a plastic bag fetish. She has definately grown to a healthy weight and has come to expect a regular feeding time. She despises an empty food bowl so much so that she nudges it off her perch when it is empty.

I recently bought her the cutest new collar that is red and white gingham with a red bell and since it was too plain to fit her personality, I bought a charm to go with it that has two small butterflies, one red and one orange to accessorize. It looks just perfect on her!

Baby is a part of our family now. Although I would love it if our two cats got along a little better, we are working through it and believe we make small strides towards harmonious living everyday.

I thank Pet Connection for the special care they gave our "Baby" and really admire the work you do and facility you run.

Thank you very much!
Jamie & Matt

I'll take some recent pictures and send them along shortly; the attached pics were taken shortly after he moved in. More later, Alan, Linda, Brandi & Stu.

Clarence

clarence I adopted Clarence (then Checkers) from you last year. He is doing wonderfully now! It was slow at first, I think it took him almost a month to learn it was ok to sit next to me (really partially on me) on the couch. Same thing with his toys, I was pretty excited the day he finally picked a toy up on his own and pranced proudly around with it. I'd say the most amazing transformation he has made is that now he loves the dog park and when we first adopted him it seemed he was afraid of most other dogs/strangers.

Here is his page on Dogster:

Thanks for bringing Clarence into our lives! Let me know if you all need anything I mentioned above,

Cinder

cinder Our newest family member, Cinder, is doing well. We brought Cinder home to be a companion to our dog, Penny. However, when we first brought her home, she didn't know what to do with any of us and crawled straight up inside of our recliner. After much coaxing, she did come out of the chair. She has now bonded with the family, especially Penny. She still enjoys the recliner and spends much of her time near Penny as shown in the attached photo: Cinder is curled up on the recliner while Penny is nearby beside the chair.

Sonny

Sonny has adjusted very well to his new home. He's a super cat - we love him to death! He gets along pretty well with his "sister" Jenny (who we also adopted from you about 4 years earlier - her original name was "Little Bit"). He loves her but she doesn't think much of him sometimes. But, she's a 7 lb tortie just trying to protect herself probably. Sonny has probably grown to about 14 lbs or so.....and she just sweet as can be. He is perfect for my 10 year old son - because he'll let Corey hold him and doesn't really care! He's got a great personality...and has made a friend in the neighborhood - another male cat named Mr. Meow. Anyway, he's just the best! I'll send along a picture of him.

Thanks again.

Chippy

chippy Just want to give you a quick status on the little kitten we adopted yesterday from you. His name was Andy. We changed his name to Chippy, since our current cat's name is Tuffy. We brought him home yesterday afternoon and got him a new bed, a food bowl, a water bowl, a liter box. We kept him in one of the bigger bathrooms in our house. We kept the bathroom door closed all the time and also the door to the room outside of the bathroom, so it is really quite for him.

Chippy has been doing great. He has been eating, drinking, going to the new liter box and playing with the new toy mouse we bought him. it is impressive how well he adapts to a new environment. Of course, his most favorite activity is to sit on either my lap or my husband's lap and purr like a tractor..never stops. He is so darling. Thank you very much for your help and education during the adoption process. Here is a picture of Chippy sitting on my husband's lap at home. – Fong & Trent

Sami

It's been over a month since Sami came into our lives, and we couldn't be happier. The Pet Connection did a great job of matching us with a dog that would fit our home and lifestyle. From the moment we "met" Sami we knew she was the new pup for us. She adjusted very well to our home, and to this day has not had any accidents in the house. We couldn't believe it! She is into her third week of doggie obediance school and has learned almost all the commands. She behaves so well and is very affectionate to anyone that she meets! She loves to go on walks and snuggle up on the couch to get her belly rubbed. We recently took her to the river and she loved getting in the water. She was so tired that she slept the whole way home! Thank you Pet Connection for giving us not only a pet but a new member of the family. We love her so much and are so happy she is in our life! Thank you again. - Andrew and Legan

ralph This is the most awesome dog ever!!! He is so happy and loves to do tricks to please us. He has gained 30 lbs since we adopted him. He is so kind to our cats (who loves to torment him) and is gentle as can be with our young boys (who thinks he is one of them). He has a very large fenced in area and a few acres to run while at home. He spends about 75% of his his indoors right now. He loves to play football, soccer, and fetch. This spring we hope to get him playing frisbee. He is so beautiful, smart, and protective. It took him a few months to get over having low self-esteem. He is now a very confident dog who keeps his ears erect and his tail up... and it never seems to quit wagging. We absolutely love him to pieces and he loves us right back!!

Nanook

nanook It's been 1 1/2 years since we've gotten Nanook (formerly Shep) and he is a good dog. He keeps the squirrels away from our peach tree and rabbits away from our garden. He's better then a cat. He is very protective of people also...but not to aggressive. I didn't think you were going to give him to us since we live out of state, so thank you. Here are some pictures...from just this week. - Wendy B.

Buddy (Toots) has become a very special part of our family. He and our other cat, Lucy, get along very well as brother & sister. Buddy is very loving and very playful. He likes to be the center of attention and is very much a lap kitty. He loves to be brushed and looks very handsome after his grooming. Here are a couple of photos of Lucy & Buddy. Thank you!

Charlie

To my friends at Pet Connection,

Mabel Jane here (adopted 6/06)! Just wanted to update you on my new little brother, Charlie. At first I was very sad that I had to share mom and dad with a new brother, but over the past few months he's sort of grown on me. He's a little loud, he drools a little too much, he's kind of rambunctious, he's a little ornery, he steals my toys and chews on my ears, and sometimes.....sometimes he has gas! Such a BOY! But he's the sweetest little brother I could ask for. We like to chase each other around the yard and then spend lazy afternoons looking out the front window together. When nobody's looking we snuggle up on the couch and cuddle. So thank you, Pet Connection, for giving me the bestest little brother ever!

Awooo wooo wooo,
Mabel Jane

Keiko

axleI adopted a cat from your Mission Mall location a little over two years ago. His name at the time was Axle and he has since been renamed Keiko. I have attached some recent pictures of him, one of him playing fetch with his ball, one of him playing with Legos and one with his buddy, Kauzi. My son and I really love Keiko and we cannot thank you guys enough for saving him. He is the coolest cat! He truly does play fetch, just like a dog does, always bringing the ball right back to me. He never tires of playing fetch. We did have a scare recently when he very rapidly developed a mast cell tumor next to his left ear, which was malignant. He had two surgeries to remove the tumor and is doing great now. There is a slight chance of reoccurrence, so we are keeping our figures crossed and praying that doesn't happen again. But if it does, rest assured I will do everything within my power to help him, he's like one of my kids now! When Keiko was brought to your shelter, he was an extremely young kitten whose mother and siblings had been tragically killed in an accident at an auto repair/muffler shop. He was therefore fostered by someone in your organization. I sent an update on him about a year ago and my email was forwarded to the woman who fostered him. I'd also like her to know that Keiko is wonderful cat and he is very loved and will always be taken care of. - Sheila

Abby and 'Lina

I've spent the last year trying to compose a letter that would reflect the incredible joy having Abracadabra and Ferrelina has brought to our lives. I am still at a loss for words. I even considered making up an entire scrapbook with photos and anecdotes for you to display in your lobby (if you would like this, let me know!). Finally, I've settled on sending a lot of pictures so you could choose which ones you liked best and the following:

Our cat had died on Christmas Eve, 2006. We were trying to decide if we should adopt new cats now or wait awhile. We were discussing this at a Panera Bread over lunch, when Orrin opened his Jones Soda. The cap said "Adopt a Pet." We adopted Ferrelina and Abracadabra in January of 2007. Choosing the girls (as we now call them) was a long process. We wanted companions who loved and needed us just as much as we loved and needed them. I visited them several times before bringing Orrin to meet them. When I saw Ferrelina on his lap and Abby sitting by his shoulder, I knew these two would come home with us. They were very shy and frightened at first, but over the past year, they have blossomed into two of the most beautiful, perfect cats I have ever met.

Abby likes to eat chocolate chip cookies, and Ferrelina likes my Key Lime Pie, so I have to be extra careful when I'm baking! They both talk to us now; their voices are more bird-like than cat-like: they warble and trill like nightingales. Ferrelina sleeps with us at night; Abby is in my lap every moment she can find and both of them lay with us when we aren't feeling well. Abby still adores belly-rubs, and they both are still very shy around visitors (although they will come out and watch people, even get petted a little if the visitors are here long enough). They both will jump at the oddest things, I think they just like to run. Stairs are a particular favorite with them.

I wish you could see how happy they are here. Thank you so much for taking them in and caring for them until we could find them. They have given us just as much love as we have given them, and we all thank you with all our hearts, human and feline. Your organization is a blessing. I sincerely hope 2008 is a beautiful year for you.

Warmest regards, Orrin, Grace, Abby, and 'Lina

Perky

"Perky had been missing since 8/17/07 from the Overland Park area. My mom, who lived next door to us, heard her barking so she went over to check on her and take her out to go potty. Perky is very strong and can be difficult to handle on the leash if you are not used to walking her. When Mom had her on the leash, she bolted and came off the leash. She took off running. My mom couldn't chase her so I drove around trying to find her to no avail. We reported her missing to every city animal control in the area as well as various shelters. We posted signs everywhere we could think of. We moved on 8/24 but we continued to try to find her.
I periodically checked the on Petfinder website to see if anyone had posted her. I always looked under Scottish terrier mix. However, this time I looked under Carin Terrier and found her picture on your page. Once I put our picture beside the picture you took, my family and I knew it was her. Never give up looking and praying!

Here are the pictures Perky. She came into her new home and settled in like she had never been gone. She wasn't skittish or afraid. When she saw my kids, she warmed up to them right away. When she saw my husband (her main master), she went right to him by her name, wagging her tail, and licking. We know that this is her. Thank you so very much! You have made our holidays the absolute best! Our family is now complete.

She gets along well with her sisters and has been a wonderful bundle of love for our family. Please be assured that we love her very much and will take very good care of her. She was "Joan Jett" when we brought her home - but soon after we changed her name to "Scrappy". The pictures are taken just this weekend, a moth had gotten into the house and both of our cats were bug hunting for a solid hour. Scrappy is the smaller one, Binky the larger. Thanks so much!

Roxy

roxy In late February of this year I decided that after a couple years of being with out one I’d look into adopting a dog. I was encouraged by my daughter and her husband who had adopted Tucker, a wonderful black Lab, from the Pet Connection a few months earlier. She explained the philosophy of the shelter and how pleased they’d been with the staff and of course they were thrilled with Tucker. So with my entire family in tow we visited The Pet Connection and there met Roxy for the first time. She was very affectionate with all my children and even the ex-wife gave a nod of approval. She was full of energy and literally bounced from lap to lap to greet us. Jason gave us the run down of her history and how she’d been adopted once and returned. She was 9 months old, about 40 lbs and appeared to be healthy and showed no signs of abuse. So an hour later Roxy came home with me. I mean who could resist those eyes?

roxy1

It was not an easy adaptation, she chewed everything in sight, and she had no idea of sit, come or really any command, she appeared totally untamable. The very sight of another dog sent her totally ballistic, no leash could hold her and to add to my frustration she started jumping the fence! With in a couple weeks I was at my wits end and ready to return her, in fact I contacted the folks at Pet Connection and told them in no uncertain terms that this was the dumbest most unruly animal I had ever experienced. Jason called me and encouraged me to bring her to a couple obedience classes before I threw in the towel, and I reluctantly agreed to give it a try.

At the first class we made minimal progress, but Melody and Jason gave me a pep talk and a few ideas on how I had to change my approach towards training. A few more classes and Melody recommended she’d like to try “doggie day camp”, a more individualized session where they’d work on the basics. Several more weeks of both the evening classes and the individual training took place and although I was trying hard to be patient, I was still resolved that this dog was beyond hope. Both Jason and Melody were so encouraging that I didn’t give up, and I am grateful for their skill and patience, both with me and Roxy.

roxy2

Today Roxy has developed into a great dog and a wonderful addition to my life. She still has a lot of puppy in her, but due to the help from the team at Pet Connection she’s a different dog. She’s about 70 lbs now and although she still has a lot of puppy in her……what a difference. Turns out that Roxy wasn’t dumb at all, in fact she’s very smart. She now comes on command, sits, goes to her crate when she hears my car keys in the morning, and has quit jumping the fence. We love going to the off leash dog parks, and the fact she obeys off leash is a miracle all in itself. She’s quite the swimmer and loves retrieving her duck from the open water. She and Tucker are best friends and we get a lot of compliments on how well behaved they are. We don’t hesitate to tell people that they both came from The Pet Connection.

I am so happy I decided to adopt and I will do it again in the very near future. Thanks so much for allowing me to adopt him you have no idea how much he has enriched my life and the people around me. I adopted him almost a year ago and he just celebrated his 1st birthday on May 5th. Again thanks so much, my life will never be the same.

Velvet

velvet Velvet is just delightful in every way. She's very loving with me and my husband without being pushy, and she and our older cat quickly established a mutual respect for each other. She plays with our youngest cat just as we hoped she would, even though the kitten tends to be a little hissy, probably because that's the response she was used to when she tried to play with the old cat. Velvet has integrated into our family so seamlessly that it seems as though she's always been our cat and we were just waiting for her to arrive.
I can't tell you how much I appreciate The Pet Connection for the TLC you gave Velvet and all of the animals there. Sincerely, Celeste

Tinkerbelle

Tinkerbelle has been a wonderful addition to the family! She is a completely different dog than the scared puppy who wouldn't come out of her cage just a couple of months ago. She gets along really well with our other two Chihuahua's as well as the cats. She loves all of her toys and can't get enough of playing fetch. One of her favorite things to do is play chase around the back yard with our two year old Chihuahua, Muck. She has even captured the heart of our nine year old Chihuahua Peanut, who at times can be grouchy. Tinkerbelle has learned the art of snuggling under the covers, and how great it is to sit in a lap on the couch with the family for evening pets. She really is a joy and we are proud that we where able to adopt her from The Pet Connection. Thanks! Melissa, Jim and Nathan

I recently adopted "Happy", I now call him Toby (I had a dog named Happy that died last year). I got Toby because my other kitten Fizgig was very lonley. (I got Fizgig from Rainbow Pet Hospital.) Now they are best friends, they play together, groom each other, and sometimes sleep on top of each other. Toby even stayed next to Fizgig and "took care" of him when he had to have surgery on his toe, which is in the first two pictures. I have many silly pictures of them. I have attached a few for you. Murphy

murphy Hello I first of all just want to say thank you! Thank you for giving me the love of my life! Murphy. I remember about 3 years ago when I first saw his face. We walked into The Pet Connection (which then was located in the Mission Mall). It was my twin brother, my mother, and me. We loved to look & the cats and dogs there because I am just in LOVE with animals. We walked into the back room and saw Murphy (who was then named Herby). My mother first called our friend Carol who had just lost her Lhasa Apso named Jackson, but within 5 minutes my mother had to call Carol back because she was in love. We signed the adoption papers on December,9th,2004. He now is the love of my life! I may only be 13 but Murphy is my everything, and so is my other dog josh who came to live with us about a year after we got Murphy. Murphy is my best friend I don't know what I could do without him. And I don't know what he would do with out me. Well I just want to thank you for giving me my baby.

Merlin and Sebastian

merlin and sebastian Last night I got out the letter that Sebastian and Merlin’s Mama had sent with them when she had to leave them at the Pet Connection in February 2005. It makes me cry every time I read it. It was so touching. She truly loved these wonderful boys. Her sadness was definitely my happiness. These two are so awesome. Both have distinct personalities. The letter that she sent described them to a T! Sebastian will talk and talk and talk…….especially if you say his name. Merlin will come and crawl all over you and won’t leave you alone…but, on his own time frame. It is all just like she said. I guess I would hope there would be some way to let her know how much I love Sebastian and Merlin and how much fun they are. I would hate to think that their other Mama would always wonder where they are or how they are…These two boys are very unique and extremely special, thus they are treated as kings! I can’t believe I got so lucky to have these two. If she reads this or you contact her (which I would appreciate, if you can) all I want to say is Thank You So Much! Joy Nelson – Spearfish, SD

Leo, Max and Eli

leo max eli Max, Eli, & Leo were adopted together in 2004 from The Pet Connection. The boys were a bit scared when first going into their new home. They hid quite a bit. Leo was the most outgoing of the three. Eli would hide behind the other two. As they have grown to know their home & their new mommy, they have become more outgoing. They love to be brushed at night & become putty in their new mommy's hand when she brushes them. The three boys are extremely close & love to sleep head to butt across the couch or on the bed. As for food, they are on a steady diet of Iams, cat grass and chlorinated toilet water. Eli found this drinking source and now they all line up for refreshments. Cat grass and chives from my herb garden are keeping them in good spirits. It has been about 1-1/2 months since they've moved into their new home and the boys are doing very well and are socializing much better and are hiding less and less every day. They get to sleep on a bed with their new mom and really enjoy their new lease on life. They are finally getting the love that they so very much deserved all along!

Annie

annie We adopted Minnie Bell last September and wanted to give you an update. First, we renamed her Annie (short for Annie Oakley - she's deadly with that nose and/or tongue). We adopted her as a companion for our other dog, Spike. We had lost another dog to old age early last summer. Annie had a little trouble at first knowing the difference between "outside" and "inside", so I had some cleaning up to do. Now she is much better and only goes in the garage when the weather outside is nasty. I can live with that. It was quite a challenge to teach her how to go thru the doggie doors, but now she's a pro, however she just loves it when I let her out the back door - it's like a special treat and she lunges at the door like it's a starting line and then races to the back of the yard, neck and neck with Spike. It's very entertaining. Annie and Spike get along fine. Spike had little endurance and would get tired after a walk around the block, but now that Annie has taken up the role of personal trainer, he's in much better shape. We do rescue him once in a while, just to give him a break. They both love to play fetch and have learned certain moves and techniques from each other. Annie had a little growth spurt after we got her - she was ravenous and would eat Spikes food before he could eat it (he's a leisurely sort), but that was over quickly. Mike thinks she grew about two inches. They both sleep with us which has spurred me to upgrade to a Queen size bed (which we should be getting within the next few weeks). Spike sleeps at the end and never moves, but Annie gets under the covers, on top of the covers, under the covers and then by morning, is lying in-between us with her head sticking out. She's definitely got me trained. Mike would make them sleep on the dog bed, but he knows how much I enjoy them so he lets them stay. Annie is very sweet although I call her "Ornery Annie" once in a while. I am very happy. There is nothing like a furry warm body laying on your lap, and it's even better with two!

plant and percy This is Julie again, beloved servant of his highness Percy Archibald Dupree. He is now a full member of the family. He and my 2 boy kitties are best buddies and love chasing each other around the house. Percy is amazingly fast and graceful for a rotund boy. The 2 females are less impressed, but Percy is almost 3 times their weight so they need to instill some respect in him. He is a constant source of joy to me and knows just what to do to make me go "aahhh" and want to give him the world. Percy's only fear now is my 4 pound, blind, arthritic, geriatric bunny who sleeps most of the time. Go figure. hale kids Thanks for our kitty! He is so sweet. We all play all day. Mom says he has the nicest manners she's ever seen and that she did not know a cat could be so great! We would not trade him for the world and cannot imagine our lives without him!
Love from,
The Hale kiddos
