The Pet Connection is one of the few facilities in the metro who offers sufficient recourse if the pet is ill or adopted out with an injury. We have every pet examined by a veterinarian before being offered for adoption, however, we believe a second opinion is necessary. Many of our pets come to our facility with limited history, so we give each adopter a FREE examination so that they can have the pet checked out again by a veterinarian in our network. This gives the pet and the adopter a chance to purchase heartworm prevention and discuss continuing care with a veterinarian. If an illness or problem is found, The Pet Connection gives each adopter 60 days of reduced cost care at our facility. We are not a full service clinic, so treatment offered at a participating veterinarian clinic would still be reduced. If the adopter qualifies, they may be able to continue to receive long term care for their pet medically at our facilities. This helps our dogs and cats stay in homes.
The Pet Connection offers adopters support and professional advice if their adopted pet becomes lost. Every pet is microchipped to help with safe return.
We always take our animals back and require it of each adopter. We don't want our animals to end up in other shelters around the states. It is important to the owners and rescuers who leave them in our care that we try to insure that they will not experience an untimely death in a shelter. Our pets always have us to come home to. As a pet owner, this insurance is an amazing life long service. We take pets back from adopters when they have past away, gone into a nursing home, experienced a tragedy, moved, developed allergies, etc. With the pet overpopulation problem in Kansas City the way it is, adopters should want to go somewhere clean and conducive to their animals needs. If they can't keep the pet in the future, knowing that it always has a safe place to go back to is a huge asset. There is no charge to adopters and they are never refused. We ask for a 3 day notice so that we can prepare and we ask the adopter to return the pet current on necessary medical. If they aren't current, then we ask them to pay to help us get them current. We complete the medical at a reduced rate designed for low income persons.
The Pet Connection offers FREE behavioral and training for the lifetime of the pet that you adopted. We can help you introduce the pet to your apartment, introduce him or her to your new boyfriend, teach him or her to quit eating your sandals, introduce it to your new home, teach it to stop bolting out the door, introduce it to your new kitten that you adopted from The Pet Connection, introduce it to your new baby, and then some... what is it that you need? Special needs animals have Free Day Camp passes after a behavioral consultation session.
